General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Rounding corners

If you have a router table it is a simple operation.  Use a pattern bit (one with a bearing in the end closest to the router and the same diameter as the cutter).  Make our template out of 3/8 plywood or mdf and use doublesided tape to fasten it to the project.  I do it all the time.  Watch your fingers!

The Coffee Shop / Golf balls
« on: May 02, 2012, 10:47:32 pm »
This old golfer had a habit of picking up golf balls he found on the course, and putting only the good ones in his pants pocket to re-sell to the proshops.  One day he loaded up his pockets with all his golf balls and got on a bus to make the rounds to see what he could sell.  As he entered a bus and walked to the back an elderly woman was obviously eyeing the lumps in his pants.  "Golf Balls" he said as he sat beside her.  In a moment she looked at him and asked " Is it as painfull as tennis elbow?"

88 degrees here on the Suncoast of Florida today.  We have our share of radical weather here to, but I couldn't pick anywhere I'd rather live.

Ok it is national safety week, and most woodworking sites you visit are plastered with posts on safety.  Steve Ramsey over at woodworkingformeremortals.com posted a link to a video blog by Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs fame and it struck a chord with me.  Take a minute and watch it.  It might change how you look at things.

The Coffee Shop / Re: what to do today
« on: April 29, 2012, 01:47:45 am »
I'm even later.  Took the cars to the wash today and left mine there for detailing, then drove 40 miles to a shop to buy a new pocketknife.  my wife & I had breakfast along the way.  Took a short nap in the afternoon then met another couple for seafood dinner and went to a community theater for a play.  I just came in from  the shop where I used a flush cutting bit to match the lid of a walnut box to the sides and then rubbed it out with a bit of blo.  I am about ready to separate the top from the sides and then do some inlay work on the top and key the mitered corners.  This one should be nice.  Sprinkled a bit here on the west coast of Florida today and the high was probably in the low 80's.

Have a great Sunday all!

That sounds like a great resource for you Cherie!  Having access to a good planer is such an advantage.  I got a steal on a powermatic 15 inch a year or so ago and it gets used on all my projects.  Good deal for you!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Magnifier Lamps, give us a report!

Gabby, I have the same as you.  Only problem I ever had with it was ocassonally when a blade broke the arm popped up and broke the flourescent bulb, so I cut a plexiglass ring as a guard and taped it in place.  I did try a led from Rockler once, but it was far too dim for me.  they had a recall & I got my money back.

Don't be in a hurry Gabby.  You will be back to doing the grass plenty soon enough.  I feel your impatience, but let it go!  You will heal up in your own good time, and the grass will grow regardless of who does the cutting.

Gabby hasn't been around as much lately for her to tease, so she's been quieter than usual.  Is that about right Marion?

When problems arise time seems to slow down, but this too will pass and things will get right again for you.  Hang in there and know there are a lot of us out here who really do care for you.

Hearing of the accident was a shock Steve, but it is surely a relief to hear you were both ok!  Wishing you all the best!

Never hurts to have a spare.  Besides you can have one setup for larger blades and the other for smaller or spiral blades.  Good luck!
