General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Question about stack cutting
« on: November 28, 2013, 09:14:53 pm »
A lot of times if I am stack cutting I will use some nails to help hold it to. If you have a "waste" area where you won't cut, put a nail or two in it. Just don't have it protruding out the bottom or it will scratch the table.

I will try the nails and see if that helps

You can use two sided tape, I typically don't, I just tape the four sides like you did. I'm thinking you might have mistakenly installed the blade upside down, that will cause a lot of jumping. Something to check anyway.

I am using Flying Dutchman #1 FD-UR and am putting the indented end on top I think that is right

General Scroll Saw Talk / Question about stack cutting
« on: November 28, 2013, 06:05:53 pm »
This is my first attempt at stack cutting. I am cutting three 1/8" Baltic Birch. The plywood seems to jumping or vibrating a lot while cutting. I taped all four edges real good to keep them from slipping, but was wondering if I should have used 2 sided tape in between the three pieces?

Any advice and help would be appreciated.

I did Steve's "Lord's Supper" and I used a #2, 20/14 blade and I only used one blade and it really didn't take that long.  What kind of wood are you using.

gene

I am using cedar planed to 1/2"

i never done Steve's pattern.but i did this one http://stevedgood.com/community/gallery/1749_20_11_13_6_34_33.jpegwhat size are you doning it and if your using spirals you shouldn't have any problems doing all the cuts.

Thanks for the reply Newfie That is a beautiful piece you did. Mine is not quite that detailed.
I have thot about trying the spiral blades but really haven't needed them until now.
I will give them a try.

General Scroll Saw Talk / The Lord's Supper Pattern
« on: November 20, 2013, 05:42:36 pm »
I decided to try Steve's pattern for the Lord's Supper. I thought I might make 3 of them for my sisters for Christmas. After 2 hours and countless blade changes from one hole to another I got one Disciple done. WOW! what a pattern. Now I am thinking might be able to get 3 of them done by next Christmas!   ::)

So far I have done alright but was wondering if anyone else has done this pattern and about how many hours it will take?

Also I have a Craftsman 16" saw and I am not sure that I will be able to make all the cuts with it.
Any advice and info would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,
George

Rob Roy.

thank you Rob I am going to order my plywood from Sloan's. I have read several threads on here where that is a good place to buy from

I want to make some Christmas presents with Steve's hummingbird pattern. It says use 1/8" for the pattern and 1/2' backer board.

I have never used anything that thin. What do I need to use for this?
I think Baltic Birch plywood?

What do you all recommend?

Thanks,
George

I would appreciate any info and advice. I am getting ready to start on some Christmas presents and need one to drill holes with.
Thanks,
George

Is 4 layers of 1/4 in Birch too much to cut at one time?

I am trying to build picture frames for my projects. I bought the Bessy strap clamp today and it doesn't work worth a hoot for me. I would appreciate input on what kind you use and how you like them.
Thanks
