Thanks all, I just haven't worked with cedar, other than building squirrel feeders. I appreciate your help.

General Scroll Saw Talk / A Fjinish Question
« on: January 21, 2011, 12:16:57 pm »
I am going to make some picture frames. My question is what do you recommend as a finish, they are to be made of cedar. I normally use Steve's lemon oil dip technique and it may well be the best way to go with the cedar. I have no experience with finishing cedar and would be interested in your input.

I agree, you can't beat Mike for service and quality. I live in small town east Texas and have blades in days when I order from Mike. Usually have an order acknowledgment in hours. I would never hesitate recommending Mike.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Blade Question
« on: December 02, 2010, 02:15:36 pm »
Thanks to all for the advice. I had checked alignment so knew that wasn't my problem. I believe forcing the cut was a major part of the problem. I have done very little cutting in thicker hard woods. In addition I needed to increase speed and also change blades more frequently. Again thanks for all the suggestions, they were helpful.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Blade Question
« on: December 01, 2010, 05:18:45 pm »
I am cutting out some of the 3D Christmas ornaments and the top portion of my blade is getting to the end of the cut before the bottom part of the cut. In other words if I stop the cut when the top part of the blade has finished I still have a distance to go on the bottom. I have never experienced this problem before, anyone have any thoughts. I am pushing the blade to the back of the blade holder, both top and bottom. I am using a DeWalt 788. is there a blade clamp adjustment maybe?

I also use the dremel with the plunge router attachment. I, like others, looked at various remedies to getting to interior holes on pieces and liked the cost factor going the dremel route.

Janet, Dremel sells a plunge router attachment for the tool and router bits. I bought the attachment to use to drill holes on patterns where my drill press didn't have the depth to reach. I read the idea on another forum and it was a solution to a problem for me. Dremel does not recommend using it but the fellow I got the idea from has been doing it for years with no problem, just have to be careful. I plan to buy some of the router bits, but haven't as yet.

Chase Amen to this one brother. I have said for a good while that my voting strategy is if your an incumbent I'm voting against you. We also need to make it clear to those voted in to office that they are subject to the same fate when their term expires. I am also a believer in term limits, feel it would be a great way to keep these guys from getting to comfortable and corrupt.

Yike, I don't think I would even try to pass her. Probably be concerned if I was close enough to read it.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Newbie question about blades

Don't know where you ordered your blades but if you order from Mike you won't wait long. I placed my last order late on a Friday evening and had an email confirmation on Saturday and the blades on Monday. This is similar to all my ordering experiences with him. Mikesworkshop is great.
