Another forum that I am a member of had a contest to make something out of popsicle sticks and I just couldn't stop myself.
Most folks made serving trays, coasters and other useful stuff but, I'm a born clown and just had to do something "unusual" LOL
Buy the way, did you know that you can go to Hobby Lobby and buy these things by the BAG FULL? Fairly cheap too!

Oops's are the reason God made wood glue.
I have probably had to glue a piece, splinter or filler on about half of my projects. I can tell you who will notice the mistake....ME and no one else. :)

My son-in-law told me to do this.....
Pick the photo you want to show and when it enlarges there is copy thing (HMTL or something like that) at the bottom of the list. Right click and when it says "copied" click on "ctrl + c" then when you get to where you want to place it click  on "ctrl + v" and it is there. It doesn't show up as the picture until you hit "post" and reinter your message though.

Didn't explain that very well, but it works for me every time. :)

I made a few like this. They are just a snack trays for party's but could be enlarged without much trouble.
I'm sure it is a Steve Good pattern.
You need to make yours larger and put your inlay in the bottom of course.

I have used maple, walnut and cherry. Almost any HARD wood works quite well. I think your problem is that cedar is just too soft for good sound quality.

The sides are plywood and I tried various heights to see if there is a difference in quality. The Grandkids don't seem to notice much difference. :)

Speaking of western red cedar, I made this a few years back.

Cedar is known to do well outdoors as far as rot and it is beautiful when first cut but finish doesn't do so well and this glider sure doesn't look like this now. I wish I hadn't put any finish on it in the first place and just let it turn natural silver grey now. For inside work it is beautiful and any clear coat will be very nice.

I also built this for a neighbor and good friend.

Same problem!

I just left click right on the photo and it enlarges it about 100 percent right now!
You do need to click on the x in the upper right corner of the photo to get it to close though.
If you want it even larger, then I guess you should do what Jim suggested.

Very good answer Bill.
We all started out slow, it is just a natural tendency not to want to go over board with something.
This hobby could be a dream for you  but then again it might be a nightmare. Scrolling is just like any other hobby that is why I don't play golf. :)

That is a good one!
Both my son and son-in-law are "puter geeks" and will love this one!

There are some real good ones in that list!
I've heard some of them before but they still bring a chuckle anytime and gives one cause to pause and think a bit.

Some very good suggestions there DW.
Wonder if puncturing a spray can of paint would let you use the very last of that too?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Steve Goods email on finishes.
« on: April 16, 2016, 12:30:26 pm »
I was very happy to see Steve Goods email this morning.
He covers a subject and offers an answer to a question that is often asked here in the forums.
"What finish is food safe?"
I have tried to answer this question several times but, let's face it I am not a scientist or carry any weight for people to trust me...And rightfully so.
All finishes sold in the US are food safe once cured. And I would bet that even if that were not so, I don't think anyone child or adult could ingest enough from chewing on a wooden item to do any serious harm to them. My gosh people have been drinking lead tainted water form their faucets for years!
It is just another case of someone somewhere started a scare tactic and it grew all out of proportion and instilled fear in people.
When I was a child in the '40s I slept in a baby bed that was more than likely painted with lead paint and I more than likely chewed on the top rail of that bed just like everyone else did. Most of us lived through that era for several years afterword and seem to be fairly OK.
I think the final answer to the question is SHELLAC. They use shellac to coat candy and medicine pills for gosh sakes!
Now on to the real problem....
FAST FOOD OF ALL KINDS!  lol
