This is another of Steve's patterns. This one was a little tricky because the wood I used was very brittle and kept wanting to chip out on small pieces. Also, I believe there are a couple layers of fat light in the plywood because it kept wearing out blades. I had to go through 8 to 10 blades doing this project. This project had more fret work than any I've done before, however I've started a hummingbird project that has considerably more. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Welcome! Lot of experience on the forum. I've learned a lot just from reading old posts. And the members are more than willing to jump in when you have a question.

Brag Forum / Steve's Reflections

Was able to knock this project out pretty quickly. This is Steve's design called, "Reflections." I did a two part paint on the backing to reflect the water a different color than the horse. Definitely a lot of fun to cut and finish. My next project will be a little more complicated. A lot of interior cuts. Hopefully I'll finish knocking it out next weekend. Happy scrolling!

Very nice job. I would like to attempt something like this after I have a few more hours scrolling under my belt.

Brag Forum / Another Horse Trio

Finished this project today. Unfortunately I don't have any idea who to give credit to for the pattern. My wife found the pics on the web and thought they would look as a scroll project. I added the backs with a combo of yellow, orange and red to give them more of a desert look because of the cacti in the larger piece. Anyway, they were fun building and someone offered to buy them before they were even finished.

I finished another project today. Again this is from one of Steve's patterns (Thanks Steve) and feel it turned out pretty darn good if I say so myself. My niece, who is the horse guru of the family, has already claimed them. Anyway, the fun for me is the cutting and finishing, then seeing the joy in someone's eyes when you give the project to them!

By the way, the "fuzz" in the middle picture is actually reflection from the flash.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Thick Pieces

Thanks Norm. Actually the piece is about 1 1/2 thick. If you notice the backing, that is from 1/4 plywood. That may give you a little better perspective to its thickness.

It was a challenge but my mom liked it, so it was worth every challenge it presented.

I agree with Jimm. If it's a 2 speed saw, I would guess that it is an older model. A rheostat switch would probably burn out the motor. Anyway, good luck on whatever solution you seek.

PatrickNY,

From what I understand Steve has limited the size of pictures to reduce the amount of data required to operate the forum. I can't remember the exact size of the limit (I believe 140 kb), but the way I reduce the size of the file I'm trying to upload to the form is by resizing the photograph. You can usually do this in most picture viewing programs on your computer. Another way is by reducing the size of the picture with your camera before taking your picture. Unfortunately, most cameras now days, even phone cameras, create a much larger file with a single picture than they did years ago. Hope this helps.

Welcome PatrickNC,

I'm new at scrolling also, so maybe we can learn together. I've found the members on this forum are extremely helpful. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Thick Pieces

Thanks Wichita. That was probably my problem. I wasn't letting the blade "catch up."

I was able to finish the project today. Even though there was a break it glued up pretty good. You can see the under cut at the bottom of the rose. There was also a few places on top but the picture doesn't show them. I had to reduce the size so I'm not sure how the photo quality will be once it's posted.

Hi Spirithorse,

The saw was square so I can't blame it on that. I believe the biggest problem was my lack of experience.

Brag Forum / Re: Finally built myself a cart - HUGE improvement!

KCSteve, very nice setup. And thanks so much for posting pics. It gave me some ideas for my cart.

I started with a WEN just sitting on a bench top. I had to keep pulling the saw back into place as the vibration would cause it to dance one way or the other. I built a basic stand but only had half inch plywood for the top. This seemed to magnify the vibration but at least it didn't dance away as I sawed. I found a large slab of two inch material, cut it to size and used it for the top. Now there is hardly any vibration at all. As I said in another post, properly mounted the WEN could actually pass the nickle test.

But seeing your shelves and cubbies, it has given me ideas to add to my cart making it more useful. I use a shop vac with a homemade cyclone system that works very well but places to store blades, tools, etc. would be great.

Thanks again for the ideas.
