Peter,

I bought a few of the plastic folding display stands from the dollar store and they work fine. I needed one more so I just traced around one on a piece of wood and stack cut two of them, then used super glue to attach a hinge. It's been working great also. I bet you can find someone with a pattern if you want to make one.

I enjoy scroll sawing. I don't think I'd get the same therapy from using a laser. I think the scroll saw will still be here. I know you can buy a cheap portable electric planer for less than a good old-fashioned hand plane, but I still see lots of hand planes around and in use. The point is that technology is great, but it just doesn't replace everything.

After the New Year I'll start working on 2012 ornaments. I plan to have these started Jan or Feb and will post the pattern at that time. I want to make some other small changes too.

I sold the sleds for $10 each. A few people said I should charge more. I'm thinking about $12 at the next show.

Torsten, I will be in the same shows next year. I want to do at least one each month starting in Sept. If I have enough inventory, I'll shoot for six shows.

I don't know how many people came through. Some vendors said the crowd was a little smaller than last year. I'm still learning the ropes of these shows. Several customers said my prices were too low and only a few said too high on the pens.

I did two Christmas bazaars last week. Overall I was satisfied. I sold 5 portraits: an Indian Chief, 2 Hidden Faces in Nature, and 2 Marine - Courage. I made 38 sled ornaments and sold 34. Sold a few pens and some odds and ends. I have one more show and it was a very good one last year so I plan to make another 30 sleds and several more portraits. Good news is...I get to buy some more tools!

I use hardwoods. Most of the boards I buy 3/4 inch and resaw and plane them to 3/16 inch. You can get some plywood in walnut, cherry and a few other wood type but I've never used them. I know Woodcraft sells cherry, oak and birch plywood.

Another thought...make 10 panels with each letter plus a blank. Bevel the edges of the blanks 18 degrees (I think) and glue them together to make a decagon.
