General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Anyone Interested? RBI Hawk!

That's a good deal GB.  A Hawk is a hard saw to beat.   I have had that model and use a 26 inch version now.

I hardly ever look anymore.  I've found a couple of absolute steals on Craigslist in the last couple of years and now have a stash of 8 to 10 foot hardwood boards split between my shop and my warehouse at work.  I have about 150 board feet of walnut, a bunch of cherry, loads of curly or birdseye maple, some purpleheart, cuban mahogany, and odds and ends.  Now I just get tortured figuring what to use on what project.

Hang in there Richard.  I am sure it is very traumatic, but give it time and you will adjust.  You are already taking the right steps.

you might also give gel stains a try.  Since they are not so liquid, they don't run as much, or absorb as deeply into the wood.  In other words they tend to stay put more.  I was accustomed to oil based liquid stains, but have found I like the gel stains better for many applications.

Dawie,

Bagetta has a dolphin family stand up puzzle available on her website at http://baggetta.com/pebooks/puzzle_patterns.htm.  Go to the nautical page and scroll down and you'll see it.  Seems very reasonably priced to me.

A smoker, lump charcoal, and some cherry wood shaving from the planer for flavor.  Now all you need is a good dry rub, some good pork and a bourbon and coke and you are ready for my kind of night.  Mmmmmm!

Ouch!  Really sorry to hear that.  It's a nightmare shared by all woodworkers.  At least it obviously didn't detach your sense of humor.  Hang in there!

Kepy,  I'll share something with you if you keep it a secret.  We didn't lose the War of Northern Aggression.  It continues even now.  We just decided that the best strategy was to let the Yankees think they had won and then assimilate the whole northern society.  It's still working!  They are still moving south by the truckload every day.
