Brag Forum / Wooden Gear Clock
« on: April 24, 2010, 01:21:32 pm »
This was my first try atcreating a wooden gear clock. I have about 200 hours into it. I finally got it to run. It runs a little fast, I have to put a longer pendulum on it to slow it down. I made all the parts from baltic birch plywood. It's hanging in my living room. I'll have to take a better picture of it. I plan on doing another one soon

Thanks guys! This forum is great, and it takes good people to make that happen. The only problem I have with all this. It is so fascinating to be in here and read about everyone and what they do and have done, I'm not getting any work done hehehehehe!

I like exotic woods. Yes they are a bit more expensive, but I like to use them on personlized projects. I have used, purpleheart, zebra, paduak, holly, sapel, walnut, marblewood, canary, cherry. I guess I could go on and on. I have a place in Ft Lauderdale that sells small pieces of all this. www.constantines.com. I also watch ebay, there are some good deals in there. Contact me if you need any help

I have a shop in my garage. It takes up most of it too. I have my DeWalt and drill press and my old Dremel Srollsaw set up on one bench. I have the old dremel set up just for sanding. Disk sander and benchtop bandsaw on another bench. Then on the other wall of the garage I have a small router table. Then I have about a six foot bench I use for my finishing. Compressor mounted under the bench, that runs my airbrush. I also keep an orbital sander mouted upside down on the bench. All this and I still need room for me and my wheelchair. Oh, and my computer is out here also.

I also have the DeWalt. I have a shelf bracket above the saw with a bungee cord attached to the saw so that it goes up and down very easily, but it will stay up so I can change the blade. If you are interested I will post a picture of this setup

Hi all! Thank you for the compliments. Cherie, I also liked your website. The wedding rings are a  fun project. I have done them again out of Purpleheart. I'll have to post a picture of them. I liked how you did the base for your heart. I might be doing another set for some people that are getting married soon. Maybe I will do a base like you did.

Thanks everyone. The dowels are walnut. I don't have room in my garage for even a mini lathe, otherwise I would turn my own dowels.

I use a water-based Polycrylic. I can't hold a paintbrush very well so I started spraying my finish on with an airbrush. I found a very inexpensive one at Harbor Freight tools. I end up with a beautiful finish.
