General Scroll Saw Talk / Cutting thin plywood
« on: January 25, 2013, 03:26:37 pm »
I have a smallish cheapo Craftsman table saw and need some insight on what kind of blades and technique to use for cutting 1/8" plywood. I have something called a plywood blade but it just shreds the edges. I'm looking to make a stock of 8" x 10" blanks, ready to scroll.

Thanks, Pete

And welcome to the forum, how about going to the "Introduce Youself" category and doing same.

Pattern Requests. / Re: Small Clock Patterns from Steve's Pattern page
« on: January 19, 2013, 09:58:26 am »
Troy, all 21 clocks in that group require the 1-7/16 clock inserts, which requires a 1-3/8 hole preferably using a forstner bit for a nice fit. You can get both at Sloan's Woodshop. That detail seems to have been ommited from the pattern. I printed it out and measured it. Print at actual size or 100% as previously stated.

I also use mine all the time. You get what you pay for though, the first one I had kept falling down. I have to push this thing out of the way every time I feed a blade, because I have to reach to the back of the saw for blade tensioning.

Computer questions / Re: My New Bamboo Tablet
« on: January 13, 2013, 09:18:34 pm »
Don, I'm thinking about getting one of these things. If I was following the tutorial posted earlier, would I do the "Photocopy" in Gimp save as jpg,
then touchup in the tablet software,
then back to Gimp for the paint bucket fill?
Then continue on your way through the rest of the steps.
Thanks, Pete

Here's mine. Top and bottom of the saw plus drill press dust removers, and the box fan with filter to collect any remaining dust. The shop vac is located in the room next door and operated by remote control. The blade holder has a magnetic strip on the front to hold blades that have been used. Also have the aquarium pump hose (in small conduit) attached to the blower hose that came with the saw. Small flexible LED light on left side is for peeking underneath (bottom feeding). Stereo headphones of course.

Introduce Yourself. / Re: New to Scrollsaw

Hello Roger, I'm Pete from Minnesota. Many of us here have the inexpensive saws, and many have the other kind. Mine (Craftsman) was $99 when I bought it 5 years ago. I have had to replace some parts, but that's OK. It is a little tough sticking those blades up through the bottom sometimes, especially with very small holes. But it does get easier.

This is beautiful work, as are the cupcakes. I've been watching some of Carole's videos...I think I have to have this book.

P.S.
It seems there may be a bit of sanding involved, is there a spinde sander involved?
( I'm trying to justify buying one LOL)
