General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Covering power tools in the shop
« on: August 19, 2012, 07:12:34 pm »
If a tool needs to be covered between uses, it is a sign to me that the tool isn't being used enough to justify itself.  I have so little room in my shop that there is no workbench and all my tools are on mobile bases so I can pull out the one I am using at the time.

What an image that creates!  Too close to reality.

I just use the filter that came with it and vac it out often.  Once in awhile I blow out the fins with compressed air.

It is true, however I defy you to convince my two dogs of that fact.  (yes we have cats to)

I forwarded it to my son, but somehow I don't think I will share this one with my wife.  She has a 9mm.

Hey Judy, this reminds me of my favorite Halloween joke;  do you know why witches don't wear underwear?  To get a better grip on their brooms.

I have done it myself and would never do it again!  Dogs don't understand things.  They just love.  Make it easier for both of you.  I feel for you!

I don't use it on power sanders because of the damage to the pad, however it is great when attached to wood blocks or contoured pieces.  It is also great fastened to table saw miter gauges, etc to prevent working pieces from slipping.

Pattern Requests. / Re: need pattern for timber rattle snake
« on: August 05, 2012, 10:28:48 pm »
Nice picture of a beautiful snakes slayer.  I hope you didn't live up to the screen name and kill it.  I catch rattlesnakes as part of my job at MacDill AFB and I just relocate them to unpopulated areas.  We don't have timber rattlers here, but we do have eastern diamondbacks and pygmy rattlers.  The biggest I've caught so far was a little over a year ago when I relocated a diamondback of roughly 6 1/2 feet.

I would imagine it is pretty tough to do a pattern of a coiled snake.  I'm no pattern maker, but I think it would be a real challenge.  Did anyone help you out?

Hey Dirts, I share the same hobby.  My wife & I have kayaks here in Florida and take them both in fresh and salt water.  Our 9 year old Grandson just spent a month with us and loves fishing so we got him his own yak.  He & I went fishing constantly.  Didn't catch a lot, but we did get a couple of nice Redfish for dinner once, and he caught a nice sea trout another day.  We also took him kayaking down the Weekie Watchee Spring river (where the mermaids swim) and while he was playing in the water a manatee swam within inches of his ankles.  He was stoked!  Next thursday we will be swimming near Tallahassee in Wakulla Ball Springs State Park unless the tropical depression changes our plans.  Nice to know that you in the north are enjoying the same things we are in the south.

The first thing I would do is check to see if the motor uses a starting capacitor.  It will probably look like a cylindrical thing attached to the outside of the motor.  If there is one, get a replacement.  That causes exactly what you described.  BTW, letting it hum while you crank by hand is hard on the motor.  If it is a capacitor, they are inexpensive.  Good Luck!

Some good ideas guys, thanks.  No redwood here, but I might be able to score some cypress.  Winters are mild here, it's the summers that rot the wood and cook the paint.  Glen, good idea on the steel but I only have woodworking tools, no plasma cutter yet?  Hmmm, maybe I should rethink that :P
