I myself like thin ornaments so I use 1/8" maple and oak and don't have any problems.  Good luck with whatever you choose.

I too use lacquer....love the fact that you can recoat in minutes.  But...just heard that over time lacquer can chip and peel and of course would look unsightly. I do things like plaques, clocks and I would think they would be ok as they wouldn't be handled, however, I also do boxes which of course would be used.  Sure wouldn't want a customer coming back with a chip/peeling item.  Anybody know if there is any truth to this?

General Scroll Saw Talk / EX21 scratched table update
« on: May 12, 2012, 07:41:11 pm »
A couple months ago we talked about the scratches on the EX21 table.  I had said mine was not only scratched but black metal showing thru and I had called the dealer.  Finally got an answer and they have replaced the table!  The rep had never seen anything like it and had no answers so a new one I got.  whoo hoo!! :)

I used to read the general category (before joining) and couldn't get over how much fun you all were having.  Not only is everyone helpful but there's joking and so on.  I understand how you feel like family as one would think that you all were friends, known each other forever and lived close by.... it's hard to believe that you're scattered from one end of the country to the other and all over the world. I guess that's one of the things I like about this forum, relaxed and fun.

I have been scrolling just over 3 years now and have picked up alot of tips from you all.  I don't have alot to bring to the table, so to speak, but I am like a sponge and always looking for new tips and tricks!  As you all know it's a very addictive hobby....if I don't start getting some sleep....when I get a new idea, sleep and my fulltime job suffer!!  haha  ;D

Keep having fun all...that's what it's all about :)

Just want to say what talent out there.  I started at the last page and went thru to the first....unbelievable talent!  Grampa, it's something else how you can create a pattern in no time at all....I snagged a few copies along the way.  It's great how you all help each other.... :)

Gee Bobby that sure was a bad day for you.  The table saw is one saw that scares me and I won't touch it....I've seen to many people missing fingers. My husband does any cutting I need.  But you're right...when things aren't going right, get out of the shop.

tvman44, I sure will.  I talked to them today but the General rep. is on vacation (in the Bahamas...poor guy, I feel his pain! haha).  Anyhow, it will be interesting to see what they say and I will keep you all posted.

General Scroll Saw Talk / what am I doing wrong?
« on: March 15, 2012, 09:16:19 pm »
Bit of a dumb question but I've noticed when I make a post that in the upper right corner it says, Quote, Modify, Remove.  When others make a post all that is there is Quote.  What am I doing wrong?

I've used a small glue brush...works well and able to spread the glue quickly.  I also use a toothpick.
