Pattern Requests. / African Violet
« on: January 15, 2011, 08:18:20 pm »
I am looking for a pattern for an African Violet or any other Gesneriad flower/plant.  Either as flat/fret work or as intarsia/segmentation, or even 3D scrolling.  It could be a puzzle or an other format.

I have started looking on the internet also.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I agree with the sentiments expressed in the many responses to my post; it is my work from the heart and is personal!  I have never been in the business to sell my work, it is a retirement hobby I enjoy immensly and I get my thrill in the response from the people who I give it to.

I am pleased to see so many of you agree!!

Boy how does one compete with $1.99 for a 2-3 inch (16th" thick) snow flake at a highend supermaket?  They also sell 4-5" for $3.  I like making snow flakes for family and friends, but when I saw them, I went geez, what's the use.  I do not sell any of my stuff, but it got me thinking about the scrollers that do.

Al, I have completed one and working on an other and based on the responses to your e-mailed instructions, I believe I could definitely benefit from those instructions - please send me a copy of that e-mail!

Thank you,

Nice work cherie!  I have used this pattern for a few years all members of the family have one.  For friends I have cut their initials.  I use poplar (top) and 1/8" BB runners, use brass colored wire, paint the runners and add gliter to the runners.  Lots of variations so none are quite the same.  I do not stack cut the tops, but do stack cut the runners per sled.

Welcome Mamuel!!  It can look intimidating, but when I started I just picked a project I wanted to do and went at it using cheap pine wood, and low and behold after a few oops and trash can moments, was able to complete my first puzzle.

ENJOY!

Hi David, the third drawer of my work bench is the recipient of projects that need a finishing touch.  Lots of stack cut Chirstmas items, some grandson puzzles, and lots of "hey that looks like fun to do" projects.  I do eventually get to them - tomorrow.

Janet, I ussually look at what my local wood working store has in stock, when ever I get a chance to get there and see if I may be able to use.  Most of the time I just buy one board foot, and as long as there is at least 4' left, they will cut it off for me.  That way I do not spend a lot and only periodically.  In the mean time I use the easily local woods, poplar, redoak, cedar, pine, etc.  I have as much fun looking for "that" wood as I do working it to make the project.

Most important part first: love those pasteries; second, that is truly nicely done - thanks for sharing.

Bill P., I also live in Oregon (Clackamas) and have not found any one local enough to get to gether on a regular basis.  I do subscribe to SAW and although it may not provide direct benefit on a day to day basis, I do enjoy reading about clubs and their efforts.

Very nice work, and I like the idea of replaceable background.
