Hi folks,

I would like a little advice please,

I am due to buy my very first wood Tomorrow and have just realized I don't really have a clue as to what I will need to buy.

My intentions are to make absolutely everything that can be made, but you folks know that enthusiasm is soon replaced with realism.

As someone who is brand new to this hobby wood should I be buying and what sizes? also what amounts?

I know this is very basic, but to me it looks like a massive hobby with so many potential wrong turns,
that I need to at least get the beginning bit correct.

Many thanks
Gary

Many thanks for your help.
I can confirm the blade is in the right way.
I slowed the machine down and it was a little bit better but the wood was still trying to jump around. I have also tried it in thin plywood with the same results.
Something I have now noticed is that the blade, as well as going up and down, seems to be moving backwards and forwards, Could this be the reason?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Help very much needed

Well what can I say,

I have just tried scroll sawing for the very first time in my life ................... Absolute nightmare.

Firstly my pinless blades kept popping out, On a positive note I am now a confident blade changer and have sort of found the right tension to be able to cut.

This is where I need help. I thought I would remove and round off the corners from some wood to make a small file holder, when trying to cut the wood, it is bouncing around like a kangaroo on steroids,  Is this normal or am I doing something wrong.

It is soft wood a little under 2 inches thick
I have no idea the type of blade as it is the one that came with the saw
The teeth of the saw have the flat bit at the bottom
The speed dial is about half way
I use a foot pedal, I think the speed remains stable so the pedal only switches it on and off I think.

I have not tried it on thinner wood yet as too frightened in case I damage the machine.

Thank you
Gary

Absolute novice here and newcomer to this great forum.

I am looking for a pattern for my workshop.
The workshop only measures 54 inches x 78 inches and we call it the Mini Man-Cave.

Would someone be kind enough to design me a pattern to include the words " Gary's Mini Man-Cave "  This will be attached to the outside of the door.

Thank you

Gary

Many thanks Spirithorse,
I had already got the catalogue but not really sure what I will need to cut and what I don't ( Hope that makes sense)
I am going to put a request in for a pattern very shortly.
I am trying to work out what would be involved in making a scroll saw dispenser/holder but thats for the future.
Giving the Mini Man-Cave a lick of paint tomorrow and will be starting cutting things on Sunday.
