Thought you might like an update, I have just finished a nameplate for a memorial garden we are in process of making for mum (pic attatched), and have just started cutting the pattern Grampa did me for mum's portrait. if I do it justice and make a reasonable job of it then I'll cut the second pattern made for me by Joleet. I would Just like to thank both of you for the patterns, they're both brilliant. Hardest job is stopping dad seeing the work before it's done as it is a surprise for him.

Thanks Torsten, I checked the video's out and did that, it cut it down by half, but going any further turning the motor and it starts to increase it again, so I got to find the happy medium. The only time i notice any trouble with it is doing a tight turn, then it will bounce if you dont hold the work very firmly. With a little time and trial and error I'm sure I'll sort it, either way it's a fantastic machine to use, it's quiet and vibration free except on full speed but thats my worktop vibrating (I dont have room for a seperate stand for it) so far I have only needed to use it on about 3/4 speed as it cuts fine at that speed. I'll let you know when I sort the blade movement problem.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Any real advantage in an expensive saw
« on: December 10, 2011, 07:43:46 pm »
I just got the Excalibur EX 16, it is a much quieter machine than the old one i had, and the top arm lifts up so you can feed the blade down through the drill holes instead of trying to twist your work to an angle where you can feed the blade in from underneath, that alone had saved me hours of time on the first project I made on it. I changed holes (and they were very small holes) and refirred the blade and was cutting again in about 20 seconds, I'm sure when i get more used to it I'll cut that time down even more. With the old saw sometimes that procedure took over 3 mins and I even bent a few blades when i had trouble feeding it up from underneath. This saw was best investment I've made for long time. Hope that helps

I got mine from Axminster power tools in Devon U.K., but it came without stand and light. I also not sure if they deliver overseas or not. I fiddled with it today trying to get the front to rear blade travel to a minimum, got it down a lot but can't get rid of it yet. I made a Heart box today to test it, with my old saw it took 2 1/2 days to cut out but with this one it only took about 6 hours, shows how much time the blade changing was taking. have attatched a pic of box for you to see.

The Coffee Shop / AGE TEST
« on: December 10, 2011, 04:36:23 pm »
Follow these simple instructions for your personal age test....

1.   First pick the number of times you would like to go out to eat ?more  than 1 but less than 10

2.   Multiply this number by two, just to be bold.

3.   Add 5

4.   Multiply it by 50.

5.   If you have already had your birthday this year add 1761,  if you        haven?t  then add 1760

6.   Now subtract the 4 digit year that you were born

7.   You should now have a three digit number. The first digit of this was your original number (i.e. how many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week) The next two numbers are your age!!!

I did this for my daughter's anniversary and she loved it. The pattern was from Steve's website and I just had to modify the number on it.

I use a lot of watch inserts in my woodturning and scroll saw work, I just looked at the sloans website and the prices are only 3/4 of what I have to pay here in uk, trouble is they dont ship outside the US. - stumped again lol
