This sounds very much like the old traveling salesman and the farmer's daughter stories only updated.

I was a staunch Delta supporter for years (20+) but when they became undependable for parts and then sold out, I switched to a Hawk and have been very pleased with its performance.  Was concerned when the company closed but the new owners appear to be doing great, ordered parts with no problem.

When did we switch languages?  I didn't understand most of these posts and had not heard of most of the music that was mentioned until Graybeards post, those I am familiar with.

Just to let you know, the surgery went great.  The biggest problem is all the drops you have to use before and after.  Sure does help the vision.  Can now watch tv without glasses.

If you can find a source for good eastern white pine, you will have better luck.  It is not carried at the box stores.  It will probably be 3/4" as I haven't seen it thinner.  I plane or resaw it as needed and have had good luck.  It is more fragile than a hard wood but is nice to work with.

Just read the aforementioned post and have to agree with Don and John.  This site is hosted in the US and is shared world wide.  It is enjoyable to hear from people around the globe but someone that negative should go elsewhere.

I have taken both magazines since 1994 but have allowed Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts to lapse as I don't do intarsia and it has become more intarsia than anything else.

The Coffee Shop / Why men are not depressed

WHY MEN ARE NEVER DEPRESSED:

Men Are Just Happier People--      >Your last name stays put.
    >The garage is all yours.
    >Wedding plans take care of themselves.
    >Chocolate is just another snack.
    >You can never be pregnant.
    >Car mechanics tell you the truth.
    >The world is your urinal.
    >You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just
    >too icky.
    >You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt.
    >Same work, more pay.
    >Wrinkles add character.
    >People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.
    >New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.

    One mood all the time.

    Phone conversations are over in
    >30 seconds flat.
    >You know stuff about tanks and engines.
    >A ten-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
    >You can open all your own jars.

You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.
    >

    Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack.
    >Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.
    >You never have strap problems in public.
    >You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
    >Everything on your face stays its original colour.
    >The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.

You only have to shave your face and neck.

You can play with toys all your life.
    >One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one colour for all seasons.
    >You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look.
    >You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife.

You have freedom of choice concerning growing a moustache.
    >
    >
    >You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes.
    >
    >
    >No wonder men are happier.

I gave them to the cooks as the senior center last year.  I also added a leather cord to the handle for hanging.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Anyone do it standing up?
« on: June 18, 2010, 09:45:03 pm »
You really like to start things don't you?

On a serious side, standing doesn't work with my bad back and sitting, I have to have my feet up due to bad knees therefore no foot pedal.

Whoever called these the golden years was color blind, it's pure rust.

Kevin, what a moving story.  It surely reminds us of the sacrifices that are made that we may enjoy our freedoms.

JD, there is no problem with being divorced.  I was married 50 yrs ago and divorced 47 yrs ago.  So far haven't met anyone I couldn't live without.  My ex has since passed so now I tell everyone that I am a widower.
