General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Cold Weather Sawing
« on: January 11, 2014, 06:38:07 pm »
I built the stand for my saw out of 1X4 lumber.  3 legs. 2 in the back & 1 in front.  Wheels under all legs.  I sit down and move the saw to sit and get up.

I extended the 2 back legs up & mounted a sloping "tray" above the back of the saw.  Mounted an electric heater on it that keeps the hands & saw table warm.  Works well.

You could also consider hanging a heat lamp from the ceiling for both heat & light.  Be sure of 2 things:

1.  Make the height adjustable to control the temperature.  (i.e. use a chain).
2. DO NOT hang it with anything combustible.  People start fires that way !!   :'(   :'(

SORRY !!  My computer just did a hiccup.
Go to:   http://www.scrollsawartist.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1
Click "Religious and Inspirational".  Go to Page 3.  Click "Angels Cross".

http://www.scrollsawartist.com/scroll-saw-patterns/religious-and-inspirational/#ty;pagination_contents;/scroll-saw-patterns/religious-and-inspirational/page-3/    I cut the bottom of the Cross longer.

Did the interior cuts (1/8") birch.  Sprayed a 1/4" birch with a red primer.  Sprayed adhesive to the back of the 1/8", stuck it to the painted piece.  Sawed the perimeter.  With the pattern still on, propped it up slightly, face down.  Sprayed primer down at 45 degrees for the back & edges.   For the base, I glued 1/4" oak top, 1/8" ply (for the middle) and sawed the opening for the cross bottom.  Glued 1/2" oak below that.  Cut oval shape with bandsaw.  Sprayed Clear Enamel on the finished piece.  Gave it as a gift, so I cannot send a picture.  I thought it looked Great.   :)    :)

The Coffee Shop / My Magnifying Light Part 2
« on: January 07, 2014, 06:39:46 pm »
1.  In spite of our cold, I mounted my Magnifying Light today, but didn't saw.  Big disappointment.  All-Spec brand for $70.  Because of the long adjustable arms, it sways.  Don't like the focal length.  If I set it far enough away to clear the wood, it's not what I hoped for.

2.  This is not the fault of the product.  Because of a couple of eye surgeries years ago, I have double vision.  Prisms in my eye glasses correct that.  However, with this product (through no fault of theirs), double vision returns when looking through the lens.
I was wearing a head mounted, flip down magnifier and that works OK, but doesn't magnify as much.

Bottom line is that I ended up with a very nice $70 light.

IF you have prisms in your eye glasses, don't buy this type of product.

Hi All,
Santa brought me an All-Spec brand magnifying lens/light.  It arrived with a broken bulb.  The company sent a replacement bulb, no cost, no questions.  On their site, look what they charge if you order one.

In the central part of the U.S.A., we have Menards Home Improvement stores.  Here is what they charge for the same bulb.

The Coffee Shop / Young Boy/ Old Man

A man sees a boy sitting on a park bench, gorging himself with candy.

"You know son, people who abstain from eating too many sweets tend to live longer."

"Well, my grandpa lived to be 102."

"Did he eat a lot of candy?"

"No, but he learned to mind his own darn business."

We went to the Dell site and bought one with Windows 7 in early November 2013.  We like it.  Doesn't come with MS Word.
