Gary, I do the digitizing for my wife who is also into embroidery.  She has the PR-600 machine.  where did you find the beaver pattern?  I may do something similar.

You guys are absolutely right.  I guess my post was off topic.  The monkeypod doesn't smell bad, just incapacitates you.  It isn't just me either.  Our Woodworking guild has an affiliation with a group that takes local hardwood trees when they have to be felled (there is a lot of hardwood in the Tampabay area) and arranges to get someone to bring in a sawmill and make useable lumber out of it instead of sending it to the brush site.  Everyone I know who messed with the Monkeypod had the same reaction.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Rapidresizer Program

I also use rapid resizer a lot and really like it.  I searched for it online and found a re-seller who had a little better price.  I sent an email to the author of the software and told him I wanted the good price, but would prefer to buy it from him directly.  He agreed to match the price, which allowed me to do an immediate download instead of waiting for a cd to arrive in the mail, but saved a few bucks also.  You might want to see if you can still find the reseller and do the same.

Got to comment on one wood only.  Monkeypod---It is strange wood.  It's dark like a tropical hardwood, but very light, almost like balsa.  The minute you start to cut it or sand it your eyes start burning, your nose runs, and your throat starts to close up.  I put some through my planer once and had to evacuate my shop for a couple hours.

I am trying to do my part!  I teach a concealed carry class for a gun shop locally and also private classes.  I coached 13 people saturday, 10 Sunday, and a private group of 3 today (Holiday so I was off work).  Putting good guys with guns on the street to help stop the bad guys with guns!  Florida now has over 1 million concealed carry permit holders and  violent crime is dropping.

I like Carter blades.  I use a 1/2 for resawing.

I'm with Roger.  I use shellac. Particularly de-waxed shellac like Zinzer bullseye.  Its natural, nontoxic after drying, dries fast and the solvent is denatured alcohol so cleanup is easy.  A couple of coats then after drying 0000 steel wool and paste wax makes a perfect finish.

DG is the guru of scroll saws and I fully agree with his advice.  I would add to that the fact that thicker wood often calls for higher blade speeds.

Keep an eye out on Craigslist.  You can often get a lot of tool for the money used.  I only paid $350 for a full size unisaw with a Beismeyer fence system and 3 horse motor.  It helps if you know someone experienced with saws who would be willing to go with you to make sure you are getting a tool thata is in good shape, but you can usually tell pretty easily.

Maple should also be safe, and is quite hard.  Might last longer.  Whatever you do, don't use walnut.  Not sure about birds, but the sawdust and shavings are toxic to many animals.

Yes.  Water as a solvent raises the grain, but denatured alcohol does not.  Note that the coloring I used is intended for use in Cake Frosting rather than regular food coloring.

I bought a used Jet 14" then put a few Carter upgrades into it (guides, quick release)  It already had a riser block.  It is now a very versatile tool I have used for everything from bandsawn boxes to resawing 10 inch wide boards.  One of my favorite tools.

I have used the coloring intended to be mixed with cake frosting and it worked very well.  I also mixed in alcohol to avoid raising grain.
