Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: Band Saw Blades
« on: February 17, 2013, 11:30:45 pm »
Search Youtube for videos by Alex Snodgrass for bandsaw setup.  He has toured on behalf of Carter bandsaw products for years and will tell you how to setup any bandsaw with zero drift, etc.  Yes, he represents Carter and they sell accessories, but his information is invaluable with or without purchasing any products.  I met him and his Dad at the woodworking show and have been back subsequent years to review and ask more questions.  No doubt he has forgotten more than I'll ever know about bandsaws.

I am truly sorry and disturbed to hear that story.  That is precisely why there is a .45 Kimber on my hip when I am walking my dogs.

Terry, couldn't remember the pozgai name.  Let me know if you try the clamps.  I have not spoken with anyone who used them to judge if they are worthwhile.  I haven't had any stalling problems with my saws.  I know at one point they changed the type of motor used.  Perhaps yours were before the change?  As to the bottom feeding, I guess I just got used to that over the years.  It is what is normal to me.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: spray painting

Shellac is my go to finish.  I spray it either from a rattlecan or a compressor and gun depending on the size of the project.  After a few coats, and time to cure, I then rub it down with 0000 steel wool dipped in paste wax and buff it off.  Gives a silky smooth feeling finish with a great luster and no artificial looking gloss.

I have had a 16 inch RBI and currently use a 26 inch RBI.  Blade changes are not difficult, but it is a bottom feeder.  The 16 is a gem of a saw as long as you don't need more throat depth.  All parts are available from Bushton Mfg who bought out the company and is trying to re-establish the line.  The price may be  a touch high for a 16 VS.  i sold mine on Craigslist for $350.  If you don't like the blade holders, there is a company who makes another type, but I haven't tried them.

My wife!  She doesn't do any wood working at all, but she does give me an enthusiastic fan club and purpose for the things I build.  If she wasn't around, I wouldn't have any reason to do what I do.  Right now I am building her a tall shaker clock.

The Coffee Shop / Re: Insurance Companies... God love them...

I am diabetic to and have had the same thing happen.  With insulin you usually buy it a vial or more at a time.  It isn't possible to buy 2 or 3 days worth in many cases, and if you have to pay for it without the discount the insurance companies get, it is expensive.  I actually spoke with an insurance representative once when in this same situation and told her if I die this weekend while you are straightening out this problem, expect a huge lawsuit that will make a vial of insulin seem like a dollar.  Didn't change her opinion a bit.

I saw your post on Lumberjocks first. Now here.  When I saw it there I didn't realize that it came from a member of this forum.  There are a lot of us who go back and forth between the two.

I entered a post into the Pattern requests section and asked if someone could make us a pattern similar to the one in the video.  Keep your fingers crossed!

I can do a lot of things, but drawing is not one of them.  Would one of you pattern makers please look at the "pooping reindeer" post in the General category and bless us all with a pattern similar to what is depicted there?  I am sure I would not be the only one who would appreciate it.

Wise man!  You will never benefit from comparisons between purchases.  What is the pattern #.  I could already have it as I have a large number of embroidery files in storage.  Thanks.
