Marion, Ya know sometimes one just can't see the forest through the tree's! Thats a wonderful and really practical solution. I'm not sure why I didn't think of making another one with the blanket, I just didn't. But now I will and then I can compare them side by side and the figure out which one I like better. It's not a very hard pattern to cut anyway.

Thanks for the slap across the back of my head.  ;)

Here's mine, I've still gotta add the blanket in. I like it much better with the blanket showing.

Katie, Thank you for your input, the review on Lumberjocks was great. I didn't want to wait to buy a tent so I found some instructions and made one for myself. I've been playing with it and am including some of my 1st shots., They're not perfect, but you gave me the foundation I needed to improve my photography abilities. I still need to work on getting the lighting right and playing with the multitude of settings my camera has to figure out what works the best. But as of right now I know that I will be able to work those things out. I included some unedited (other then resizing to post here) pics for you to see. Again thanks for your help and time it's greatly appreciated.

And thanks also to Wedo for your input.

Oh... Katie, what wattage bulb is in your light?

Nick I believe this is the link you are looking for http://picasa.google.com/ I use Picasa all the time and it works great and is easy to use once you get the hang of it. I would suggest Google searching for Picasa/ Video tutorials, they help get you up to speed quickly. As for resizing, you can also do that in picasa. When you click on your photo, a menu of different items appears on the left, if you click the green PICNIC button it will take you to another site where you can manipulate the photo how ever you want. Actual resizing is done through the Edit tab at the Picnick site, While there you also get your clouds fluffed and a sprinkling of dew.

I've noticed some of you take really beautiful pictures of your work. I'm pretty good with a camera and photo editing software, but it seems to take me forever to get a picture that I like for show casing my work. Any tips, tricks or techniques about how you set up to take them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

PS. Actually that bottle has been floating around here for quite awhile, empty, it was just something to take test pics with.

Katie, I finished mine today and was going to post it tomorrow, now I don't have too! LOL When I cut mine I left the blanket out because I thought it wouldn't look right, well after seeing yours I guess I'm gonna have to pull it out of the frame and do some more cutting, because yours looks much better than mine. As for the cat, it's not mine, but it belonged to a very good friend of mine. She had it for about 10 years and it recently passed, so I thought this might help cheer her up a bit. Great job on it. And also a HUGE Thanks to Grandpa Paul, he simply is awesome!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Speed to wood Thickness
« on: April 12, 2011, 10:28:40 pm »
Do any of you have a rule of thumb or some sort of guideline for matching blades speed to wood thickness? Such as "I'm cutting 3/4" Red oak and I'm going to use a number 7 blade at X speed" or " I'm cutting 1/8th" Baltic Birch with a #5sr blade at X speed" It seems to me that different types of woods might cut better at different speeds, so basically how do you figure out the best speed for your saw on various thickness and types of wood? I hope that all makes sense!
