General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: HELP!! Please
« on: July 19, 2016, 09:22:08 pm »
Hmmm... I feed both ways on my DW788 depending upon what I am doing.   Here MIGHT be the problem Judy. If the top of the blade and the bottom of the blade are at 90 degrees to each other when you go to tighten the bottom clamp it pinches the blade sideways so that when you do apply tension it snaps right where the screw holds it.  The possible solution is to ensure that both the top 1/2 inch and the bottom 1/2 inch are going the same way.  Hope this helps.

Steve has on his other website a bunch of patterns that he has made available over the years.  Here is one for an easel that you can scale to whatever size you wish.

I agree with herrwood on the table saw.  Personally if you have a router and a router table that would work just as well if not better than the table saw.

Tyrone,
A lot is going to depend upon what you are going to be cutting.  Personally  I would get a small amount of the more popular ones ie in the flat blade 3,5,7.9 and in the flat end spiral #1 and #3.  Try them out if you like them order more.  The two main blade brands folks seem to use are Olson http://www.olsonsaw.net/cat/scroll-saw-blades/ and Flying Dutchman http://www.olsonsaw.net/cat/scroll-saw-blades/

I received an Email from ETSY the other day about potential massive delays if shipping to Canada due to a very possible mail carrier strike. I have looked this up on line and they have said that if there is a strike it will not be before 7/5/16.  Just thought you might be interested.  This affects everything going there, UPS, Parcel Post, DHL and even regular US Mail headed there.

Introduce Yourself. / Re: New to Scrolling - Health Issues
« on: June 28, 2016, 11:14:03 pm »
Thanks for all your advice and wishes Guys. I am really greatfull for all the comments and knowledge on the subject. Here in the UK there is very little advice or Scrollers as there are in the good old USA. I am in the process of buying and rigging up an effective dust collection system to help eliminate further problems, especially when sanding as I now think that was the cause. Once again Thank you

One of the more simple but effective ways to manage your saw dust is the tape a furnace filter to the input of a box fan and run that.  The fan will bring the air in through the filter and the air out will be much cleaner than the air was before.  That, a dust filter and some form of collection will help you out alot.

Sounds like you are really hooked.  Scrolling is one of the best hobbies I have come across.  It allows you to express your creative side, relieve stress, and have fun.  We are looking forward to seeing your work as you progress... pictures are always welcome.  Oh and before I forget Welcome! I am DW from Mentor, OH.

Here is a link to the sawdust toxicity charts it is very eye opening -

http://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/wood-allergies-and-toxicity/

I have had 2 friends go in the hospital and almost die because of yellow heart sawdust, which they found out they were sensitive to.  Please always use a good dust mask when cutting and sanding.
