General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Stools or chairs for SS
« on: March 08, 2014, 12:15:42 pm »
I built my own saw stand out of 1 X 4s.  3 legs.  2 in back that extend up and have a tilted "tray" across the top.  Mounted an electric heater that points down toward the saw table/hands and also mounted blade holders there.  Straddle the third, front leg.  All legs have wheels.  I sit & pull the saw towards me.  Only drill 6 - 10 holes at a time.  This forces me to get up more often and go stand be the drill press.  Take occasional "breaks", to go into the house and have coffee with my beautiful wife of almost 52 years.  Another thing I do occasionally is calisthenics.

When I buy 1/4" BB ply, I only buy "Good On Both Sides".  $1.05 difference in price for 12" X 12".  Gives me the option of choosing the best side for a small difference in price.

The Coffee Shop / Why men are better friends than women
« on: March 05, 2014, 10:07:01 pm »
Women  A wife was not at home all night.  So, the very next morning, she tells her husband that she stayed at a friend's apartment.  The husband calls 10 of her best girlfriends and none of them confirm that.

Men  A husband was not at home all night.  The wife calls 10 of his friends.  5 of them tell her that he stayed at their place overnight.  The other 5 confirm that he is still there.

MORAL OF THE STORY;  MEN ARE BETTER FRIENDS !!!!

Scrolled 1 1/2 years, but always single pieces.  i.e.  Did this: http://www.wildwooddesigns.com/Search.aspx?k=62241   Everything else I did was an individualized personal gift.  Just bought this pattern:  http://www.wildwooddesigmens.com/Search.aspx?k=62241 and want to stack 1/4" BB with 1/8" Luan on top.  Would you kind people educate me on holding the stack together.  Have room on the corners for glued in toothpick dowels.

1.  Is blue tape around the perimeter & dowels adequate?  LOTS of very fine cuts.  Would the sheets separate and get sawdust in between the sheets?

2.  I am a fan of Blue tape & 3M spray.  Should I cover all sides of every sheet & glue them together?  If so would it be possible to pry apart the finished product, or would the tiny pieces break?

A big Thanks for any and help.

A woodruff key is designed to never fall out.  The manufacturer must have machined a horrendous fit between the pulley & shaft.

A.  Enlarge the key.  (Put groves in it with the jaws of a vise grip)(Strike it with center punch)(Flatten part of it with blows from a hammer.  It will fly into the neighbors yard when you hit it on another steel surface.  Be sure you contain it & wear eye protection).

B.  Cut up a soda/beer can (consume contents first  :D )

1.  Cut a strip the width of the woodruff key, letting it extent into the pulley first.

2.  Wrap a little of it around the shaft.  Leave some stick out on the end of the shaft. Taper that part, insert it into the pulley AND GENTLY force the shaft into the pulley.

I cannot stress enough that you need to experiment with small pieces. If the key falls out again, keep trying slightly larger shims.  If you apply excessive force, your pulley will easily split and you will use words that should not be posted on the site.

My Bad !!!!!!!!!!!!!  Should have explained better.   I have an interest in airplanes, so the Wright Brothers Flyer is the only site I looked at.

Toward the upper right are arrows.  Click to get the next picture.  On the picture, there are red circles that you can click for close up pictures & more info.

Feel free to throw a rock at me for being such a dunce.  (If you think you can hit me in Iowa)   ;D   ;D

IF George W. Bush were still President of the U.S.A., he would not have stood for the Russian aggression in the Ukraine.
He would have invaded New Zealand by now.

A Tennessee redneck went over to his buddies house and appeared shaken up.
The friend asked, "What's wrong?"
The guy said, "I came home soooo drunk that I had just slept with my 3rd cousin last night."
The friend told him that if it bothered him so much, he should quit counting.
