The Coffee Shop / Re: What do you do to make a living

I am the Postmaster of a small town in SW-VA.  I have been with the Postal Service since 1979.  Prior to that I was in the Navy for four years onboard the USS Saratoga (that is a Ranger Class aircraft carrier "Rightarm") CV-60.  I am eligible to retire (55) and hope to soon spend a lot more time scrolling and perhaps take on a part-time job.  My wife of 31 years and I now spend as much time as we can with our two year old twin grandsons.

Good post Gary - I have the same problems with holding pieces for sanding.  Thanks for the good ideas, everyone.  Crusty and Bill have really got me thinking.

220 grit is as fine as I usually go and the less hand sanding the better.  I use an orbital sander as much as possible.  I am also getting a sanding mop which I hope will help. (180grit from Rockler)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Krylon Clear Acrylic Gloss Coat use

Bought a couple of cans of Krylon Clear Satin.  I have been wanting to try them since Steve gave them a thumbs up.  Thanks for the tip on using lacquer to seal.  I bought the Krylon for about half of what the spray lacquer costs.  I do like lacquer, it dries so fast and I have a short attention span.  It keeps me engaged to finish a project.

 :(

Like I said the address does not work.  Operator error (me)!  Go to Steve's site and you can find it.  Sorry.

PS:  Lots of folks don't know much about computers --- I don't even suspect anything!

Hi Dav -

Steve has a video on you tube

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8dgV2uYh

I made a number of them this past Easter.  I am not very computer literate if the address does not work just go to Steve's website and look under Scrollsaw workshop videos.  They turn out nice but instead of making a jig I cut the eggs in half it gives me a flat surface to steady my scrolling.  I would then glue the two sides back together.  After sanding and finishing you could not see the seam.  It will make more sense after you watch the video.

You don't have to worry about him liking it Michael.  It is very nice and you did a great job.  How nice to honor a friend and pastor.

Nice job Crusty!  I cut some Padauk about three months ago and I am still finding red dust  :)  It is a beautiful wood thou, especially when finished.
