General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: lemon oil

I have pretty much changed to shellac also.  While the lemon oil make the grain pop, the fact that it never dries or cures is deal breaker. I tried blo/ms 50/50 and while it does a good job, I had some problems with it in high humidity.  I tried mineral oil but that is almost as bad as the lemon oil. I experimented with spray shellac and can shellac. I now use a shellac/denatured alcohol 50/50 and it works great. Fast drying time and a really nice look. Depending on the project I finish with either lacquer, wax, or just buff with brown paper and leave it as is.

I believe that the band saw is "safer" than the table saw but be CAUTIONED   It too has safety issues and can hurt you bad.  Regardless of the power tool, safety, knowledge and common sense are very important.

I have the 14 inch Rikon and could not be happier with it.  I replaced a 9 inch Ryobi that would not cut hot butter. The Rikon is SWEEEEEEEET!!!!!!

I finally got rid of my old crapsman  and I went with the Porter Cable.  I did a tune up on it before ever cutting anything and have been very pleased with it. Last year I did something stupid and a piece of 3/4 inch oak kicked back. One piece hit me ( nice bruise for a week) and another piece hit the rip fence and bent it BAD. I screwed a couple of squared boards to it and it was almost ok. I put up with it for a couple of month. The part on line was in the neighborhood of 65-70 bucks.  I finally called PC direct and got a brand new rip fence for $23 Including shipping!  They treated me good.

Keefie  A similar way is to carry a fairly large piece  ie  a 24 inch clock and put it in predominate place with a fair price . maybe a little marked up. that will also attract attention. Worked for a friend last year at a show we did together.  Thing was he sold the clock!!!!!

I also put packing tape on first and glue the pattern to the tape. For me, the patterns comes off easier.  Plus I do not like to have to spritz with mineral spirits, especially in the winter when it takes longer to dry and even longer for the smell to go away.Packing tape on tp creates a bad glare for me.
