Thanks Mainwoods
I have Gimp but I'm too challenged to use it, have Inkscape too and the results are the same. It stinks having a 0.012 IQ. LOL
I have Paint.net for most of my editing purposes. I can draw with it and correct blemishes on scanned photos and it is easy to learn which is important as it keeps the stress level down.  :)

Take a look - various patterns of different subjects, all I saw were free to use, some free for commercial use and some not.

Just a note to those who make bird houses, the door needs to be small enough so that only the bird it is designed for can fit through. We have lots of Acorn Woodpeckers here and they are great ones for using vacant houses to store acorns, then when they can't reach them through the small door they enlarge it to get in. I have used sheet metal to surround the door so that they can't do this, in addition, those that I have that are designed to open for cleaning, I leave open to discourage them from using them as a pantry. I used aluminum flashing because it is easy to cut with snips, top & bottom from tin cans work too.
Just goes to show you Gabby can run off at the mouth at the drop of a hat.

Paul, in the short time that I've been part of this forum, it is obvious you are the man for the patterns. I'm going to save this one and tackle it once I get more practice under my belt. The wife will love it since her favorite flower are roses.
I think I need to make a file just to save all the patterns I like. Thanks for sharing.

You are right on target. Paul is a whiz no question. I made a file folder just for patterns and ideas for patterns, and save them all in one place it's easier to find them that way.
I snitched a copy too Paul just in case I ever get good enough to make something so intricate. It would make a great trivet she could leave out for everyone to admire.

Got the new FD blades yesterday and tried the first one out from the free sample, a FD-UR-5 ultra reverse
I used it on the same piece of 1/4" plywood, and there is no comparison between the 2 blades. I even got brave enough to cut out a stencil of the numbers 6-7-8. one inch high. Whew almost bit off more than I could chew but got through OK nothing to crow about but it did help my self confidence. Not quite ready for prime time!  ;D
I have a foot control switch coming should get it Monday, the control that will give will reduce my aprehension and difficulty reaching my left hand for the switch especially if I'm trying to hold the work still and fumble for the off switch at the same time.
I'll just keep on keeping on!

It took me a minute to figure out what the initials stood for. I have always related those 2,  to a disease of the promiscuous.
Sorry just had to share that.  :-[ :D

The gift boxes really look great!

Computer questions / Re: Looking for a free download PDF to JPG converter

Torsten I got the FastStone Capture to work for me. I had to open the files and select the pages one at a time in order to save each one as a JPG. That will work for me well enough, even though it's a bit cumbersome.
Thanks for the tip.
Man! Trying to find something suitable via the internet can be frustrating. I know what I want is out there if I just know how to search for it and wade through all the sites to find it. Grrrr!

Torsten I'm looking at that website, but I'm not sure how it works?
I'm looking to change PDF to JPG which is what I'm used to working with in my photo editing software. Will this work for me that way? I am downloading right now.

Hi Gabby,Have a look here, don't know if its any good ive never tried it......Paul ;D
http://download.cnet.com/Office-Convert-PDF-to-JPG-JPEG-TIFF-Free/3000-10743_4-10900900.html
I tried that one last night and didn't like it, only converted 1 page at a time, not the whole file I want to be able to work with these patterns useing Paint.NET or other editing software. I'm not about to spring for the whole Adobe package. I don't do enough to pay for the fancy programs. I'm also looking for FREE software not trial ware.
Thanks for trying Paul.

I've been looking for a good download, but so far they have been trial ware or junk.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Brag Forum / Re: Bowl I made
« on: February 10, 2011, 03:10:11 am »
Here is one of the bowls I made from Carole's book on making Scrollsaw Bowls.  The square bowl is made from walnut and the round one is from white oak.  White oak is very tough to cut and hard to sand as well.

Great work! The way the round corners flow is neat.
I love walnut!
Did you cut the bottom to fit inside or attach underneath hard for these weak eyes to tell.
Does the walnut cut fairly easy? It's been a long time since I've worked with it and that was on the lathe.

The Coffee Shop / Re: Saw blade condition or is this normal?
« on: February 09, 2011, 03:24:51 am »
@Gabby,
At 300' it would be a whole lot better to put a sub panel in your shop with breakers than to try to bring one line with outlets.

Wire size ( 0 ) Maximum amps for power transmission( 150 )You could have 7-20 amp circuits.
Wire size ( 1 ) Maximum amps for power transmission( 119 )You could have 6-20 amp circuits.
Wire size ( 2 ) Maximum amps for power transmission( 94 )You could have 5-20 amp circuits.

Each circuit would be 120 volts.
One circut could be used for lighting.

Most extension cords for regular duty use are 14 awg or 12 awg at best.

12 awg at 300 ' pulling 20 amps will have a voltage drop of 19.59 v leaving you with only 100.41 volts to work with, really being unaxceptable.

This is just a suggestion/estimations but I feel this would work better for you.  8)

Thanks Russ that jibes with my calculations I figured it would cost over $1000 to do because of prices for wire of that gage, and trenching. Just too much money for our budget, should have done it when we first bought the place and still had some money to spend for improvements. Water over the dam. So now I get a scroll saw that doesn't make too much mess compared to lathe shavings and put it in my carport next to the house.
If it's too cold I'll just be in here giving everyone a bad time. Summer time shouldn't be too bad, we only get a few weeks of really hot weather 90 and over 100. I used to work in hotter weather as a youngster growing up near Phoenix, AZ. But I couldn't take it any more.
