Word Art signs are really easy to make, all you really need is a graphics program such as inkscape, Gimp, Corel Draw or something similar.  There are for a simple sign just a couple of steps.  Step 1- Decide how big you are going to make your sign.  Step 2 - Decide what shape it is going to be. Step 3 - draw that shape in your graphics program.  Step 4 - using the add text function of your graphics program type out the name that you wish to dousing a font that you like.  Step 5 - Make the name fit the sign and ensure that none of the letters will create drop outs when you cut them.  Letters such as the A,B,D,O,P,Q,R will have to be modified so that the insides do not drop out when cut.  If you include the lower case there are a few more.  a,b,d,e,g,o,p,q,r  There are some very good tutorials on how to make signs on youtube.  You may wish to search a few of them up and view them.

Very nicely done Ray.  Laser cutters for that thick would set them on fire... a cnc router might though... Personally I like scrolling things better, tends to feel better.  Thanks for sharing these with us.

Ray after your picture is up on Google ( Very nice bowl btw ) if you right click on the image and choose copy image address
then back on the boards here click on the insert image and then put the image address that you copied in between the img tags you will be able to post that picture.  This is what I just did for the picture of your bowl.

Troy how complicated you want to make this is going to be your limitations here.  You can make a platter easily enough.  I have drawn up a very simple one as a way of illustration -

Something like this can be easily modified for size and whatnot to make a serving platter.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Cedar Wood
« on: August 02, 2016, 06:41:15 pm »
There are at least 3 different species of Cedar Tony.
Western Red Cedar (aromatic )
Yellow Cedar
Spanish Cedar
White Cedar
There are many many more but these are the most common here in the states.

As with all woods western red cedar has a wide variety of coloration from a light tint to a vibrant red and white.  A lot will depend upon where you get it, when it was cut and how it was cut.  You can get some really nicely figured Cedar on Ebay - for instance - http://www.ebay.com/itm/4ea-4-4-Eastern-Red-Cedar-4-5-8-X-34-3-4-/142066253627?hash=item2113ceff3b:g:O0sAAOSwBw5XRJ6~

Afternoon folks! I haven't posted here in awhile, but, I'm still around. :) I'm looking for a CW- Hitachi scroll saw. 16". It doesn't have to be in perfect shape, as I'm looking for it more for parts for mine. The parts I need have suddenly become obsolete on the Hitachi site, so, plan b kicks in. My email is bulldog6536@gmail.com. My phone number is (785)772-7321. Thank you for your time. Enjoy the day!

You can get the parts for that saw at http://www.ereplacementparts.com/hitachi-cw40-variable-speed-scroll-saw-parts-c-7927_13387_13388.html  I used to scroll with one of those but I wore it out so I went to a Dewalt  Looking to upgrade again soon but for now that link will get you to your parts I bet.
