Good work Jim.   Thanks for showing the stages of completion.  You are exactly right, I think, had a tried to start scrolling when I was young I would not of had the patience the hobby requires.  Although my bifocals sure are a hassle :)  Thank you for sharing your work.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Lemon Oil Finish
« on: June 08, 2010, 11:03:47 pm »
Janet -

I buy Old English Lemon Oil at Target.  It is basically a furniture polish.  It will dry away completely in a short while.  You will still need to use some king of finish to seal your work.  I use spray-on varnish, usually satin, because it dries so quickly.  Poly takes a long time to dry and I am a bit impatient.  There are oils such as Danish Oil that will seal when they dry, but it does take a while.  You can aways leave things natural which I do with most toys and puzzles.  The Lemon Oil will make it look nice and give you an idea how it will look finished, but it evaporates in a relatively short time, if left alone.

I have never used anything on the scroll table.  Never thought I needed it.  But what the heck, I will try it with the Johnson wax and see if it is an improvement.

A lawyer was late to a very important appointment.  When he finally arrived at his destination, there were no parking places to be found.  He looked heavenward and said "Lord if you would only help me find a parking place, I promise to be honest in all my dealings and from now on give half of my salary to those in need".  A parking space directly in front of the building materialized out of thin air.  The lawyer looked back to heaven and said, "never mind I found one".

Does any one remember the first time you went to a doctor and you realized you were older than them?  Rather sobering  :o

You don't see as much of George Harrison as you do of the other Beatles.  He was the youngest in the group and his passing saddened a lot of fans.  MadHatter, you did a good job on all the portraits, thanks for sharing.

I did just order the pattern from the Wooden Teddy Bear.  Thanks again I had been trying to decide on something to do for Father's Day.
