General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: I recieved my band saw blade!

You said you managed to coil your blade - Wood Magazine has a note on how to do it    http://www.woodmagazine.com/woodworking-tips/techniques/skills/folding-bandsaw-blades-simple-as-one-two-three/

Curiouser and curiouser.  I opened Steve's page in IE8 and found some links I never saw before, I also now see the boxes with the red "X".

In Firefox, I never saw the number of subscribers or the 4 links to Timber Tagger, CanCam, Hand Crocheted lace items, and Fix Registry.  Looking at the HTML of the page, the links are there but aren't visible in Firefox.  This is because I have used Ghostery to block trackers on all web sites.  I'll enable some of the trackers for Steve's site only, so I can see more of the page.

Not seeing the "X"s, etc. is not a virus, but I suppose it could indicate a virus, if the trackers were not blocked.

Thanks,
Jim

Still don't see any "X"s - here's a screen capture.

I'm using Firefox, perhaps that why I don't see the "X"s.

Looks OK to me.  Where is the little box with the "X"?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Mitre Saw Blade Selection
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:21:45 pm »
Toneman, blades for a table saw and blades for a miter saw aren't generally interchangeable.  Did you perhaps install a table saw blade on your miter saw?

From what I can gather, the hook angle is different.  Rockler http://www.rockler.com/articles/saw-blades-101.cfm mentions that the miter saw needs a lower, or negative, hook angle.

Good luck,
Jim

Marcellieus, I use Firefox with Windows XP and Steve's catalogue page works perfectly.  I also tried it with IE 8, again under XP and it works fine.

I tried turning off Javascript in Firefox and the menu still worked fine.

Willieg, I suspect there is a setting in your browser that is causing problems.  Sorry I can't be of more help but do hope you can solve your problem, Steve's page is a great resource.

willig, not sure what will help you.  Can't recall anyone else having this problem.  What operating system and browser are you using?  Perhaps that information will give someone else something to go on.

Another to consider is the Delta 40-690 - a clone of the DW788, with a different paint job.  The Delta 40-695 an updated version of the 690.

Computer questions / Re: does anyone know why I can't upload
« on: July 10, 2013, 09:59:27 am »
Only part of the page loaded for me.  There was a message saying "failed to load content".  When I allowed Google Adsense and reloaded the page, the whole page was visible.  It seems they found a way to require allowing Adsense to run and loading the content.

If you allow Adsense, you should be able to see the page.

Another alternative is to use Microsoft Picture Manager to resize you images - it's part of MS Office.

Good luck,
Jim

Personally, I don't like Google's snooping with tracker cookies.

willieg, when you hover the mouse over the baskets-bowls-boxes menu item, three sub-menus (in a lighter colour) appear below the baskets-bowls-boxes menu.  Slide the mouse down to the type of pattern you want and click on that menu item.

Hope this helps,
Jim

As a Canadian, I will not comment on many of the points made, but from the start I have wondered about the Paula Deen, and other stories - it seems to be very much a tempest in a tea-pot and not worth the extended coverage.

In general, I find the media gets a bone in their teeth and can't let go.  They go around and around and around, making mountains out of mole hills, possibly because it is easier to rehash a "simple" story like the Paula Deen story, then to dig up significant news.

I also find they often get their "facts" wrong, something that simple fact checking would correct, and don't care to correct them.

Computer questions / Re: Internet explorer 9
« on: July 08, 2013, 08:33:50 pm »
As far as I know, Windows XP does not support IE9.  Are you sure you have IE9 with Windows XP?

Does your IE have a a pop-up blocker and do you have it enabled?  If you do, the pop-ups could be some sort of virus, trojan, tracker program, etc.

Not much help, but it might lead you somewhere.
Jim

Not wanting to start a debate but it's more that IE8/9 is getting closer to conforming to the standards set by W3C (the group that sets the standards for coding web sites).  IE is getting better then they used to be - ask any web designer about trying to make a web site work in IE5 or IE6.

I have the Easy Lift http://www.jimdandy.com/products.html on my Delta 40-690.  It makes blade changes and changing holes much easier.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: Standing or sitting
« on: June 23, 2013, 12:21:12 pm »
In most cases, standing makes sense, and would be safer - table saw, lathe, grinders, etc.  It would let you stand off to the side so you aren't in line with the blade or wheel.

I can't personally see a problem sitting in front of a scroll saw.  The worst event I can think of would be a piece of broken blade flying into your eyes - always wear safety glasses.  I have a magnifier light between me and the blade.  But, if you are standing, it would be easier to stop cutting and walk around for a break.

In the end, I think it's up to you.

I also have "Marg's syndrome".   ;)  (Do we have a new medical problem, with a name?)

Am trying to get motivated to start scrolling but it's hard to get started.  Can't afford a new tool but do want to get a belt sander, one day.

Good luck, Marg,
Jim
