I think everyone's said it, plenty of tension on the blade and slow feed rate. Let the blade do the cutting and just ease the wood forward, you should never have to push the wood hard to get it to cut, if you do then the blade is blunt (fit new blade) or the wood is too thick for the blade in use in which case use a slightly larger blade.

Hi kardar2, looking for scrollsaw books in shops here is not good, we have more chance of finding rocking horse s**t, as for clubs , I have been looking on the internet for a year now and not found one club in the U.K. It seems there isn't enough scrollers here to warrant one. I thought of possibly trying to start one, but so far I havent found another scroller in Cornwall yet (but I'm guessing there must be one here somewhere with a scrollsaw)

Hi John, Welcome to the forum, I'm Keith from Cornwall U.K.  I see the "family " here has already given their advice and I fully agree with all they say, Mikes blades are the best you will find anywhere, just changing to the Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse blades improved my cutting 100%  and will probably help you in a similar way.

There is no such thing a a dumb question, it's always better to ask if you're not sure. No one here will think anything less of you for asking any question, but we'll all try to give you an answer if we can. This time you managed to work it out for yourself, but anytime you get stuck on something no matter how complicated/trivial/silly you think the question might be, please don't be afraid to ask.
Bye the way Paul, great pattern, I pinched a copy too, ty

I can't see how you managed to get second place with that piece - It should have taken FIRST place, it's beautifull.

I know that feeling well, done it myself a few times, usually on the last few cuts too.
