Most use 1/4 bb ply.  You can sometimes avoid tear outs by sandwiching the work between some sacrificial pieces.  Hope this helps a little.

Brag Forum / 12/12/16 Mahogany Bow box
« on: December 12, 2016, 02:52:13 pm »
This box was made from mahogany this was 4 inches x 3 inches x 1 1/2 inches thick.  The ribbon was cut from 1/2 inch Bb Bly and coated with crystal glimmer paint.  The whole box was sealed with tung oil then top coated with shellac.

One of the best ways to prevent that is to require a signature upon delivery.

Those are great Judy.  They have that major cuteness factor about them.  Thanks for sharing them with us.

I have mine right next to the right front leg of the stand set up like a gas pedal.  This works for me most of the time.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: How to make fine lines ?
« on: November 25, 2016, 08:00:13 am »
Veining is what this is called and some use a very fine flat blade some use a spiral, a lot will depend upon how noticeable you want the veining.  A #2 or #3 blade would make a decent vein, just my opinion of course :)

I have cut wood that thick and find that using a flat blade can be very tricky and slow.  I would not use a reverse tooth blade as you need to keep the kerf clear as possible.  Use a skip tooth blade.  I generally use a spiral blade for cutting that thick, however most of what I am cutting out of that thick of wood are lids to boxes.  In any case it will take practice to get consistently good cuts in wood that thick.

Excellently done.  Like Mike has suggested perhaps a light blue light.... gives it a more serene feel.  That came out great and at the shows around me that would easily sell in the $30 - $35 range, it all depends upon the venue though.
