For what it is worth, Baltic Birch ply is made with waterproof glue.
The sun is worse on wood than snow is.  Latex outdoor paint without tint dries clear and provides some protection from the sun and weather.

By sanding powder I meant dust collected from an orbital sander.

Jim how big is that?  If you do that small enough, it would make a beautiful necklace.

It is 4 1/2" tall and 3/8" thick.  I gave this to a friend and he wears it around his neck.  I intend to sell them as something to hang on a car mirror.

I am working on a toy box I am making from a sheet of 1/2" Baltic Birch. I paid $27 for the 60" x 60" sheet here in West Texas.

Yes  white glue mixed with sanding powder...not sawdust. Sawdust it too coarse.

I haven't seen all that much lace wood but I've never seen any with a pattern that large.  It is very striking.  I agree that you will probably sell them quickly.
I have seen this wood called leopard wood also and parts of the same board are figured like this is and some parts of it are figured the same pattern but larger pattern.  Spread out a lot.  Both are very pretty.

Not chip marks.  That is the natural pattern in the wood.

I made ten of these 4 1/2" x3/8" crosses to be hung on a rear view mirror.  Folks here in West Texas collect crosses so these should sell easily. I was given a small piece of Lace-wood so I used it to make these. Tung oil and spray on clear finish.

I get my Flying Dutchman blades from Mike also.  Good blades and great service. Very good prices when I buy many gross at a time.

I would try a local motor repair shop.  Bring one of yours in to them and they should be able to match some for you.  You may have to trim them a bit but will work fine.

I like the idea of using a wood flaw as a design feature in a cross.  I think I will try that.  Thanx for posting.

I think that when you use the same type of wood and stain or paint it it is called "Segmentation",  Not Intarsia.  I have seen some very nice projects done with both methods.
