Linda, I sand the ends of the blades and have no (almost) blade slippage.  Never thought to clean the clamps (men don't clean  ;) ) but I'll have to try that.

Thanks,
Jim

EIEIO - of course you are right - Firefox has to find a solution.

Malistar, didn't think that it might be an extension.  Here's my list:

Extensions:
- Better Privacy
- Ghostery
- WOT (Web of Trust) - it ranks search results based on suitability for kids and overall trustworthyness - if there is such a word.

Plug-ins:
- Google update
- Intel Identity Protection (2 instances)
- NVIDIA 3D Vision (2 instances)
- PDF-Xchange Viewer
- Shockwave Flash
- Silverlight
- Winamp Application Detector

What I call a "blank" screen has only a box (window) with the error message that the connection was reset and it also suggests the site might be busy.  The background is beige.

I could try disabling the Add-ons one at a time but the "reset" is intermittent.  One session will work just fine while another session has quite a few "resets".

Thanks for your interest and I'll be interested in your (or anyones) thoughts on the problem.

GB, spotted that myself and am trying to talk myself into (or out of) it.   :)  It looks like a good deal.

Computer questions / Re: Connection reset???

Update: as I mentioned, I deleted all "stevegood"cookies and of course had to fill out the user name and password.  For a few days, I didn't have any "resets" but they are starting to happen again.  Deleting cookies seems to work but doesn't seem to be a good solution.  If I deleted all cookies every few days, I'd be having to log in to a whole bunch of sites - a pain in the _____.

Hope Google finds a solution.

Have a good day,
Jim

EIEIO, thanks for those links.  I had read the "delete history and cookies" but hated the thought of re-entering all my user names and passwords.  I was also suspicious when Mozilla wants to delete all history and cookies if the problem was only with one site.

I just deleted all cookies with the heading "steve" (for stevegood) so we'll see how that works.

Thanks for the suggestions and I'll report back in a few days.

Computer questions / Connection reset???
« on: January 24, 2014, 04:36:57 pm »
While I am going from page to page on this forum, I regularly get a "blank" screen with a message saying the connection was reset.  Once in a long while I get the same thing with other sites, on this site it seems to happen 5 to 15 times a day.

Clicking the "reset" (or is it Retry?) on the blank page usually gets me to the page I was going to but sometimes I have to click Reset/Retry two or three times.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro with 16G RAM on an i3770 CPU (a new, well equipped system) and the latest Firefox.  Windows is up to date.

Is anyone else having this problem?  On the assumption the problem is on my end, I have looked through the internet but haven't found much help.

Has anyone here had the same problem and did you find a solution?

Thanks for any help.

overfifty, your profile doesn't indicate which part of the world you are in but Bigfoot is Canadian.  On the link page above they say "We Do Not Charge Extra to Ship to Australia or Anywhere else!"

The Easy Lift is supplied from the US.

Having said that, I agree with making your own.  My wife says I'm cheap but I call it frugal and inventive.  ;)  Unfortunately I couldn't come up with anything I liked so I bought the Easy Lift and, as I recall, shipping was minimal.

I can't prove it but I recall hearing/reading somewhere that the bolt you mentioned shouldn't be tightened enough to hold up the arm - something about adversely affecting the internal mechanism.  Perhaps someone else can comment on this.

I use and like the Easy-Lift http://www.jimdandy.com/products.html.  Others use one of the Bigfoot products http://www.bigfootproducts.ca/Lift-N-Lock.html.  There are others available and some on the forum have made thier own arm support - do a search on the forum.

best of luck with it.

Interesting.  Somehow my country was changed to USA, not Canada.  When I selected Canada, the Festool tab is there.  Did they stop selling Festool in the US , or did they never sell them there?

Looked at the Lee Valley site, the Festool tab is no longer at the top of the page.  Wonder why they are no selling those tools?

Dan, forgot to mention that I used blue painter's tape, then the pattern, then clear packing tape all around the blank.

Thanks,

General Scroll Saw Talk / Cutting plastic
« on: January 20, 2014, 08:51:43 am »
Tried cutting plastic (cutting board type - polyethylene) yesterday - quite a hassle!!  I tried the largest FD is had, a #5, at low speed but the solidified behind the blade.  I found an old pinned blade, without the pins, and it worked quite well, as long as I moved the cut along quickly.  As soon as I slowed down, the kerf closed in.

The blade is used has about 18 teeth per inch but is quite thick and 1/8" wide.  The size doesn't help much at making sharp turns but I think the extra width made a wider kerf that didn't close in.  I know Mike recommends Polar blades for plastic but I wanted to cut now.  :)

What has your experience been with cutting plastic?  Any suggestions would be appreciated - blade type, speed, etc.

Thanks and have a good day,
Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: dewalt side to side blade adjustment issue
« on: January 15, 2014, 06:20:06 pm »
Zeroloc,

Is the problem that the blade is not perpendicular to the table when the saw is off but with tension on the blade?  If that is the case, can you adjust the tilt of the table to make the blade perpendicular?

If the blade is perpendicular to the table but moves side-to-side while running, can you tell if either of the blade clamps moves sideways as it moves up and down and if so, which one moves?

I hope this helps but I may also be way off the mark.  One thing I don't recommend would be to file the clamps.  They are aluminum and need all the strength they have to resist the force of the blade clamp screw.

Good luck and let us know how you are getting along with this problem.
