General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: How do I copy free fonts to my pc

I wish I could help.  There are lots of folks who don't know much about computers....I am one who doesn't even suspect anything.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: What kind of scroll saw do you own?

Ditto to Janet's post.... however one day I would sure like to own an Excalibur (sp?)  If I went out and brought one of those home there could be some trouble in paradise  :o

When I make Steve's little clown that "walks" down the ladder it has a number of dowels that I round over.  I use my disc sander and just round them by slowly spinning them around.  You could also just put a piece of sand paper flat on your bench and sand them by hand.  Neither of these will give you the consistent look that a router will, as Chief mentioned, but they look good enough for government work  :)  Depending on your project and the size of the dowels used you can get them looking pretty good with a little effort and it won't cost much.

It happened to me just tonight as I was cutting a 1/4 oak fret work basket.  I didn't drop it but I was a little too aggressive clamping after gluing (sp?).
Super glue is the best thing I have found but sometimes you just have to start over :P

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: ?Walnut Oil
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:32:37 pm »
David -

It is odd you should ask about walnut oil.  I bought some from Woodcraft  awhile back, and as Dgman said it is quite expensive.  It looks nice on everything and gives a warm golden (slight) tint.  I completed a fretwork card basket tonight out of 1/4 oak.  I used the Walnut Oil, because it was at hand, and it turned out nice.  It takes a long time to dry and sunlight really helps the drying process.  Whatever you use it on will look nice, but it ain't cheap  :o

Well said Sheila.  Personally, I did not have anyone to learn from and Steve's site and videos got me started in scrolling.  I was looking for a hobby that was affordable and relatively safe.  With this SW Community site, I get to learn from a whole new group of scrollers.  Good post Sheila and if you are reading this well done Steve.

Nice work, there will never be another Barney Fife.  I have watched the Andy Griffith shows so much I can just about quote what they are about to say.  I never get tired of watching them and Barney was the best of the best.

That is a good price.  I paid $50.00 more for the same set up two years ago at Woodcraft.  Anyone looking for a good saw will not be disappointed with the Dewalt.
