Thanks EIEIO. I've taken a copy & plan to cut a few for my Grandkids to color. They love to do art. And my daughter love it when they are doing something other than running her ragged.  :D

The Coffee Shop / Old Age
« on: February 22, 2013, 08:54:19 pm »
Three old golfers are walking down the fairway.

"Sixty is the worst age to be," said the 60-year-old, "You always feel like you have to pee. And most of the time nothing happens."

"Ah, that's nothing," said the 70-year-old. "When you're 70, you don't have a bowel movement anymore. You take laxatives, eat bran, you sit on the toilet all day and nothing happens."

"Actually," said the 80-year-old, "Eighty is the worst age of all."

"Do you have trouble peeing too?" asked the 60-year-old.

"No, I pee every morning at 6.00 am. I pee like a racehorse; no problem at all."

"Do you have trouble having a bowel movement?"

"No, I have one every morning at 6.30 am."

Puzzled with this the 60-year-old said, "Let's get this straight. You pee every morning at 6.00 am and poop every morning at 6.30 am. So what's so tough about being 80?"

"I don't wake up until seven.

Personally I'm approaching 70 - can't wait 'til I'm 80. I'll get to sleep in. :D

Nice work DW   I particularly like the pattern of end grain layup you used. A true beauty.  Brian

I can forget my purpose just by going down stairs - no door, doorway, or threshold.  Now why was I replying to this question?

Don - saw your walking sticks today. Pretty sharp !!!  I had wood carving for seniors today and one returning carver brought in a walnut limb he was carving [he's made several] that reflects time line events in his life. Starting with his birth at the bottom, his marriage, children, grandchildren, etc.. Just copy & numbers. He also walks up a mountain here is South Dakota ever 3 years to see the progress being made on "Crazy Horse" [A carving out of a mountain]  Those trips are recorded also. Thanks for the photo.  Brian

Thanks fellas -  I've cleaned up the pieces with mineral spirits. I applied the ms's to one or two pieces at a time - then used a sharp blade to lift one corner of the 1st piece. This method works like a charm.  PS - I've tried the tape under the pattern and the tape sticks to good. I find the tape adheres well and lifts some of the weaker painted grain. I have the blue tape and I know that different tapes have different release times - I might be using a tape that holds to firmly after time [long project time].  If any one knows of a tape with a shorter release time, I like to know.  Thanks  Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / Removing patterns

I know I've read replies to this question before - but my search proved unsuccessful.  I've applied my pattern to a painted and sealed blank & then cutout the puzzle.  I used 77 photo mount spray with what I thought was an extended dry time before applying the pattern.
I've done this approach successfully before. The pieces are small and will take forever to scrape them clean and I'll loose some of the paint job.  Was it mineral sprites sprayed on - for how long?  I'd even use the microwave [after my wife went to bed] but again for how long?  Thanks in advance again - Brian

It's really neat to see your shop and the in-progress work.  Steve's nickel contest was another welcomed view of how others handle set-up and work, like the batten clamped to your board for added rigidity. A picture really is worth a thousand words.

Put my vote for the green backing also. And I'm with the others - great cutting.

WOW   I want to thank both Mehendra & Ron.  These cutting are beautiful. I could never, in a million years, have come up with anything half as nice as these renderings.  Many thanks- Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Stencil application
« on: December 27, 2012, 09:23:19 pm »
I find I use different attachment methods depending on the project; Blue tape, spray adhesive, glue sticks, clear tape, and combinations of them.  My least favorite is stenciling. I've mostly used it for wood carving but find my re-drawing the line is not to good. [I never was good with cranes either]  I do like using a very light spray adhesive coat followed by a long open drying time before applying the pattern - to the point that the pattern barely holds - then I cover with clear tape to help hold the pattern & lubricate the blade. Projects vary and I like to spend as little time as possible clean up.  I have been disappointed with veneer pieces lifting off when I've first applied blue tape - it's to strong a hold or on to long a time -[hard wood veneers not B/B veneer].
