General Scroll Saw Talk / My First..and..Only Craft Show is Over.... :+}
« on: November 11, 2014, 07:14:42 pm »
Hey everyone....  Well my Wife and I attended our only Craft Show in Fayetteville, Tennessee this past weekend.   I feel Blessed that the people bought $600.00 worth of my Scroll Saw crafts.  This was our FIFTH show.  Learned from experience there that 80% of the people that stop by have the feeling of being in a FLEA MARKET.  Lots of compliments, but keep on walking.  It bothers me that MOST will pick up the craft and look and then just sit it back down!!  Am used to this procedure.  This is what I KNEW, but will say LEARNED from this year.  Craft a project that is Eye Catching and CHEAP.  Seems most EVERYONE will buy for $5.00 or LESS.   And make LOTS.
My Ornaments.  5 different styles.  Cut from 4 to 8 of each pattern.  Did the works with the OIL/STAIN and VARNISH.  Had a TOTAL of 280....Yep....280....  And I brought back ....FOUR....  And PRICED each for a BUCK.  NONE of my Ornaments were that complicated to cut.                     Well just wanted to Yack and tell ya's....................................Danny  :+}

Speaking from MY experience.... 90% I cut with BB....  1/8 is comfortable with stacking ....4....  Five works, but that bottom one tends to have lots of tear out here and there.  1/4 BB I am still very Good with only 2.  Three will work, but that thick to me is pushing the blade.  Will dull faster.  Safe than Sorry I say.  Everyone has their own proven ways, but this is mine.  Danny  :+}

And I THANK YOU BOTH for your input.  This being my FIRST attempt I was just trying to get tips to Inspire me.  Danny  :+}

P.S.  The 43 pages actually consist of different plans for different things besides the Peterbilt Tractor and Trailor.  I would say that TOYMAKING PLANS go to Great Lengths with each plan.

Have read here and there that a GOOD picture of Good Quality and Clarity can be had with the average camera.  Most will use a TRIPOD and a special setting with Photo quality lights.  Probably tutorials out there on this subject.  Danny  :+}

And another GREAT LOOKING FINAL of this Project.  Did you have nervous feelings while scrolling Jesus face?  Not a
Spiral guy, but a straight blade would of been Scary.  Looks Very, very Good....  Danny  :+}

Never got good with spirals, but my opinion is fine tune the slot using a FD-UR #1 blade.  Danny  :+}

This is only my Opinion.  Have cut MANY Slotted Patterns.  Mostly they call for the designated type of wood like 1/8 or 1/4 normally.  Determine the Pattern is the size of what your gonna cut.  To me it doesn't much matter as I always cut inside the line and YES means more cutting, but I keep a test piece and keep trying it as I trim using the scroll saw.  Just a few cents worth.  Have always had Good Results with a Tight fit.  Just my 13 cents worth...........Danny  :+}
