Computer questions / GIMP re-visited
« on: January 17, 2014, 06:15:42 pm »
For those of you who use GIMP on a regular basis do you freehand your "enhancements" with your mouse, or use something akin to a bamboo tablet and stylus. As much as I've used a PC, or laptop over the last twenty-five years the freehanding thing doesn't work for me. To avoid the frustration of working on that small screen in GIMP once I've got something remotely acceptable in black and white I find if I print off a copy and use a couple of thicknesses of felt pen the process goes  quicker. Comments? Thank you, Barry.

I guess that pretty much settles the issue, "hunter green" for the backer it is. Thank you all, and have a tall, frosty one on me.

I'm cutting a piece for a family of Irish decent. Can anyone please confirm that the green usually associated with Eire is Kelly green? Thank you, Barry.

Creepy to watch the little tendrils almost like feelers reaching ahead to pull itself forward (shades of "the blob").

Hi Troy. I came across this vid by accident and was stunned by this phenomena. It would be interesting to know how much further it progressed. I hope the homeowners had a rider on their insurance for "acts of God". The narrator didn't seem to have a British accent, any ideas where it occurred? Thanks, Barry.

The Coffee Shop / Ideas on pricing
« on: January 09, 2014, 06:23:23 pm »
I certainly didn't go into this to make money but an opportunity has presented itself, and if nothing else I'd like to recoup any costs. My daughter's a yoga enthusiast and I sent this to her at the end of November. I now have orders for six. Suggestions on what to charge would be appreciated. Material cost was negligible as I did it on a whim and had everything at hand. Can't really say how long it took as I usually have several projects on the go at once. I'm guessing 6 to 8 hours to cut everything including routering the base and the "hangar". I could certainly cut the time down by stack cutting as much as possible. Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Barry. p.s. there appear to be imperfections but they're on the photo not the piece.

Sully, do you think it'd make a difference if I took the photo with a camera rather than a cellphone?

Any suggestions on how to post a photo? The option for attachments under additional options limits an image size to a few kb. and my photo is rejected. I don't think the image I'd like to post is any larger than other images on the forum. The "insert image" icon on the tool bar just inserts "[img]" into the text of my post. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Barry.

If Newfoundland/Labrador is like Nova Scotia most, if not all of their power is generated out of province and imported. If those utilities generating power are contractually required to export power elsewhere consumers in Newfoundland/Labrador and Nova Scotia only receive whatever is called for in the contract. Considering the demands elsewhere it's doubtful the utility is going to provide any more than they have to. If their anything like the utilities in B.C. they make huge dollars from exporting power. Guess who gets priority?

Hi Danny. Ordered 5' to see how it works. Looked at the 81/2" x 11" shipping labels and price of $38 for 50 sheets up here in B.C. put me off. Curious to see how long it takes to get here. Ordered blades better part of a month ago and still not here... Christmas probably slowed things down considerably. Cheers, Barry.

Pat still has one regular session left and then Herceptin weekly for a year - we can empathize. Our thoughts are with you, and don't hesitate to take any happy pills they prescribe. Also, don't be afraid to grab some couch time... no one on Steve's site is going to complain. Love and best wishes, Pat and Barry.

Try this. Sorry I couldn't make it a hyperlink. There might be something there you might be able to use or modify.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Basement Scrolling
« on: December 30, 2013, 01:34:51 am »
Hi Reaper. I do scrollwork and use my router everyday in the basement. . My darling and I are both allergic to dust, and I developed a hypersensitivity to wood products (sawdust) my last several years in carpentry. As of yet dust hasn't been an issue, and wife's happy if I vacuum my mess occasionally. Cheers, Barry.
