General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: A Glueing Clamp I made - 90 degrees
« on: October 25, 2014, 09:57:10 am »
Ray, I took it to mean that part "A" was something like the pre-fab corners you can buy when doing crown molding.  Presumably it is a true 90 degrees and is only used to establish the "B" parts at 90 degrees.  If I am correct, once the "B"s were in place, the "A"s are not needed.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Adjusting a DeWalt 788?
« on: October 23, 2014, 06:00:27 pm »
Based on the Delta, which is the same as the DW, you also have to remove the panel that goes from the back to the front - under the table.  There are two bolts at the rear of this panel and two at the front end.  Be careful, the panel holds the front and rear sections of the saw together, without them, parts can fall over.

As I recall, the fuse holder cover has a small slot in it for a flat head screwdriver.  Turn the cover, probably counterclockwise, to get at the fuse.

Hope this answers your questions.

DW, that's a good way to make other rings as well, napkin rings, finger rings, or even "tires" where you glue a thinner rim or even spokes inside.

Great idea,
Jim

daveo, that's much better than my pattern and now I have to ask.  How did you thicken the lines?  My method is to set the pencil size to what I want and paint over the line until I get what I want.  That gives jaggy lines when seen up close, yours are so much smoother.

What's the secret?

Thanks for your version,
Jim

Ray and TDPainter, thanks for your suggestions and kind comments.  Pattern making is certainly a learning process.  I've revised the pattern and, unless I really missed something, I'll use this version for cutting.

One problem is hiding the starting drill hole for cuts, such as the lower trim line along the doors, that don't meet a larger cutout.

Thanks again,
Jim

I made (at least tried to make one   :)  ) the pattern from the photo.  I'd appreciate your comments on how to improve it - to me it doesn't look very good but . . .

Thanks,
Jim

An alternate source for a belt might be your local auto parts store.  I needed belts for my drill press and the parts store people were able to use the original belt to find a generic with the same profile.

Thanks to all of you pattern specialists for your efforts.  My problem now is to select the pattern to cut.  My wife likes one and I like another so there is a quite a discussion going on in our house.

Really appreciate your efforts.
Jim
As an aside, I tried to make a pattern myself - it was horrible, didn't look like either of them.

Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least six (6) feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.

Even easier - Close The Lid!!

Mahendra, tried to upload a larger picture but couldn't make it much larger and still stay within the size limits of the forum.  I uploaded a larger image to http://www.securenet.net/members/jscott/dirs/scrollsaw/.  I hope this is large enough for you to improve the pattern.

Thanks again for your help.

Mahendra and tdpainter, thanks to both of you for your patterns.  Both are great - can't decide which to use.  When I get the pattern cut, I'll post the results.

Great work and thanks again,
Jim

Pattern Requests. / Requesting a pattern from this photo

Good afternoon,

I want to make a portrait of these two.  He died a month ago so I want to make one as a Christmas present for her.

My pattern making is poor, to say the least, so I'm hoping the experts in this forum can help me.  If you can ignore the reflections in the glasses, that would be great.

Thanks for your help,
Jim

Computer questions / Re: PDF
« on: September 10, 2014, 12:25:13 pm »
Hi Judy,

Many programs (Gimp, Inkscape, MS Word) have the option to "print" to PDF.  To use this option you must first have a PDF "printer" installed.  I use a freeware program called CutePDF http://www.cutepdf.com/ .

Once installed, when you click on Print from a program like Gimp, you can select the printer you want to use from a drop-down list.  CutePDF will be one of them.  It works well for me.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Yup, Ray is correct about the wiring and I was wrong.  Glad it worked out safely.
