The cooking section of WallyWorld, also big grocery stores have digital timers that are battery operated and have a clock and timer in it. Just a few bucks and the battery last for a couple of years. I have a couple around the house and RV.

I have rubbed liquid dish detergent on the wires and it really helps & dries after awhile causing no problems.

I would pull the wire out and refish with the ground all at the same time..

It is not code but if you are running the wires in conduit you could add a #10 wire for the ground and use the 6-3 for the 2 hots and neutral.

I awoke this morning and look out the window and saw some green so that means I am still on the top side and not underneath and the Mayans were wrong.
