General Scroll Saw Talk / My new "lift" in life
« on: January 08, 2014, 09:40:59 pm »
Just had to mention my Christmas gift of "The Lifter" on my dewalt.  This is better than sex [at my age] or the invention of sliced bread. This brings more enjoyment to those multiple fret cut. PS this is not a paid commercial.  Brian  P.S. Thanks The Melster _ without your direction the Pic won't be possible.  ;)

Danny - I need a little help here.  I check out www.thewinfieldcollection.com for that adv. backer paper [Scrollsaw Tape] & was routed to other sites. Didn't seem to be a company to order from.  P.S., of course the house has eaten my copy #52 to assist me. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE TO GO.   :)  [Not all at once now]  Brian

Those are 3 nice presents.  And I agree with the others - "what mis-cuts?  On another note, how did you get your wife to bring you coffee etc. while you work?   ;)  Share the secret.

Pattern Requests. / Re: Nutcracker Pattern request

Thanks Ray  I think I'll cut it out of some 1/8" B/B birch and add the year & "Nutcracker" copy at the bottom. Still wondering about adding a little color to the fellow.  Will post a "brag" when I'm finished.  Again thanks  - Brian

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: A different way to sand small parts.
« on: December 13, 2013, 10:44:44 pm »
I like to sand larger pieces 100_120_220_400 grit before I cut my blanks. I find it easier to move the palm sander over a larger pc. rather than working small blanks.  I believe sanding & removing loose top slivers will leave me less final sanding on a finish fret work. I also do not remove all the fine saw dust before applying blue painter tape.   That way the tape has a reduced holding/grain raising affect when I remove the tape/pattern.

Good project. Like the 15 degree dovetail. How big was the starting block & what was the finial dimensions?  What did you use to cut the "top" and "bottom" off? Thanks for the detailed pics.
