Oh Boy!  We are un-monitored for a few days.  What can we get into?

Have fun Russ!

Bushton mfg is the new owner of RBI Hawk.  They stock the parts for the older saws and I pray will return the Hawk to the prominence it once had.

Depends on what kind of tools you have in your shop.  I like making furniture, so I resaw hardwood on the bandsaw, then run it through a drum/thickness sander to make it uniform and take out the saw marks.  I ran some maple offcuts that way this morning and turned scrap into good scrollsaw material.

Kepy I just made 5 clocks shaped like pigs using clocks with shafts for 1/4 inch wood.  If you have a router, make a template for the cutout in the back to recess the clockworks into and then use a bushing and straight or upcut spiral bit in the router to cut out the wood.  Just don't cut more than about 1/8 at a time.  Worked like a charm.  Best with a plunge router but not impossible without a plunge.

Try spray Shellac.  It's very forgiving, you can apply another coat in about 10 minutes, the solvent is denatured alcohol (in case you get overspray on something).  If possible rub it out slightly with 0000 steel wool or a scotchbrite pad with paste wax on either and you get a very soft to the touch feel.

I use all kinds of clear finishes, but I never use brushes for anything but painting my house.  (I even spray most of that)

Wish I could send you a box of "strong", then again, you have enough already.  All the best to you!

Nice job as always!  I made a couple of these this weekend out of cherry.  They came out very nice.  I wasn't as creative as you.  Didn't think of the balls for the end of the branches.  I am thinking of making more as tabletop decorations for our Woodcrafter's Guild Christmas party & dinner.

I have had a couple of hawks over the years.  Bought both used.  The first was a 16 inch which I sold after acquiring a 26 inch.  I really can't imagine how any saw could be much better unless you have a problem with bottom feeding for interior cuts.  The Hawk combined with Flying Dutchman blades has been great for me.  I have not had an Excalibur or Hegner.  The original RBI Hawk was bought out and the new owners are making them available again.  I would love to see them return to prominence.  You can often find them used on Craigslist.

I always loved the bumper sticker that reads "The voices in my head told me to stay home and clean the guns today."  He must not have listened though because the car is out on the road.
