General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: New Jet scroll saw

I did try one out. And thought it was great once I got used to it.  what do you think of the speed of cutting compared to the Dewalt?

To be honest I didn't test it at a faster speed. At half speed it does seem to cut slower. I tried an Excalibur once and did not like it. Personal choice, feel of the machine and old cow habit really come into play. If you get a chance, be sure to try before you buy.

My usual saw is the DeWalt 788.  The Jet would  take a little getting used to. But it sure is a nice saw.

I had a chance to work with the new Jet Scroll saw. It is great for bottom feeders like me. Really quite and smooth running.  I only use the spiral blades and it cuts very nice.  Where I usually run my DeWalt at a higher speed when stack cutting 3 layers of 1/4 inch baltic birch, it didn't seem necessary with the Jet.
The only things I found on the "minus" side is that the lever that grabs and tightens the blade turned so easily that it takes a bit of getting used to to keep the tension that I wanted. Also placing the blade in the top "grabber" took some fumbling to get it in place.  I can see where straight end blades would be a great thing.

Hey, Dgman ... I am so sorry if I offended you.  It was just a joke and could have been about anyone. Please don't leave the forum.  What can I do to make it better??

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogical researcher, discovered that Hillary Clinton's great-great uncle, Remus Rodham, was hanged for being a horse thief and train robbery in Montana in 1889.  The only other known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows.

On the back of the picture is this inscription:  “Remus Rodham; horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times.  Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.”

Judy e-mailed Hillary Clinton for comments.  Hillary's staff of professional image adjusters sent back the following biographical sketch:

“Remus Rodham was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory.  His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad.  Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad.  In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency.  In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.”

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is how 'SPIN' is done!

General Scroll Saw Talk / New JET Scroll saw
« on: September 04, 2016, 08:14:12 pm »
As most of you probably know, my son and I do three big shows a year. We live 100 miles apart but "work together".  We have both used the DeWalt 788.  As he put it, he got a "wild hair" and bought the New JET scroll saw. So far he really likes it even though it has some things that will take getting used to.   I am like the old cow that has to have her own stall, so I will go play with his saw once in a while then may take the plunge myself.  Any one else get "a wild hair " yet??
