Pattern Requests. / Re: Scroll Saw Fonts
« on: April 24, 2017, 12:11:25 am »
Hi All,
I am trying to cut a prayer and I can't find a scroll saw font.  I have googled, shopped, etc and can't find anything.  Help Please!  I really appreciate any assistance.  This is the prayer I am trying to cut.

Thank you, God for this food.
For rest and home.
And all things good.
For wind and rain and sun above.
But most of all those we love.
Amen.

Cathy find the font you want.. let me know which it is and I can modify it so that it will be scrollable.

Thank You
Cathy

They sell a 5 inch long plastic test tube with a screw on lid called a Baby Coke Bottle... https://www.stevespanglerscience.com/store/baby-soda-bottles-giant-test-tubes.html

This is what a lot of us use.

I got me a new toy to play with,,, when I have time of course :)  It is a low end 3d printer and it has been an experience and a half getting it set up properly.  I will post some pictures as I get things made with it.  The process is not fast :)

I use Flying Dutchman branded blades.  I used to get them from Mike but he has since passed but before he did he sold everything to the Wooden Teddybear.  You can still order from mikesworkshop.com.

Steve Good fairly recently put out a free pattern for a rubber band shooter.... here is the link to it.

Are you looking to have this just as a shape or is it going to shoot rubber bands, or what?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: AMT Scroll saw

It looks like it was a decent enough saw when it was in production.  For the air, you can use a strong air pump ( aquarium ) and some tubing to blow the sawdust out of the way.  As for  the blade holders ... those I bet will have to be trial and error.

I have located the operator and parts manual for this saw.. a link to it it is attached.  This is a very old saw as scroll saws go.  It will be difficult if not impossible to find parts should you need to do so.

Not familiar with the brand.  Could you post a picture of the data plate?

Welcome Peggy.
As for your blade twisting issue.  What thickness of wood are you cutting.  For 1/4 and below the 2/0 and #1 are good.  For 1/2 to 1" #3 and larger work well.  The problem as I understand it from what you have written is the 2/0 and #1 blade are too thin to easily cut anything but a straight line in stock thicker than 1/4 or there about.  You best bet would be the #3 as it has enough metal in the blade that it will be ridged enough for the turns.  Unless you are doing really really intricate work in very thin stock I have found that the #3 blade a very good all around blade.  Just remember the thicker the wood the bigger the # blade.

It is similar to the Hitachi CW40 which I used extensively until I wore it out.  These are the top of the sub $200 range saws.  I found it to be a good saw to learn on and it really got me interested in getting a Dewalt when I had the money saved up ( limited fixed income ).  If you do decide to get one you will enjoy it.
