Hi Rog, let me assure you that no information from this forum or my blog is sold or shared in any way. I am also on their mailing lists but I have been buying scroll saw products for years so that's not surprising.

Hi Thumbs. That was something that happened while I was trouble shooting the poor performance of the forum. The pictures that were older than 30 days were deleted. I wish that had not happened but it was needed at the time. We might have to go to a system where all photos on this forum will have to be hosted off site. Still trying to work out the issues.

Guys I would love to have Sheila as a mod but I know she has her hands full with her site. If she volunteered that would be wonderful to have her experience. The problem with being a mod is that it's all work and no pay.

Go back and look at the parts breakdown posted by Becky a couple posts below. Item 52 has started to back out. It's easy to access by removing the cover. Just tighten it back down and the handle will be firm again. I have seen this a few times.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Steve how are you doing?
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:07:25 pm »
Hi Dunk, yes I'm doing better. Thanks for asking.  I probably should have timed the offer to do the Name Ornaments better. I did over 1000 of them in a week. Not too smart on my part but I didn't expect so many people to want them. One person ordered 56. Many ordered 20+. Thought my arm would fall off before I got them all finished. I still have a few to do.

Reminds me of something you would see on the Adams Family. Very fun.

Hey Mike. That's the video. I used some of your jewelers blades.

I'm not sure I follow what you want to do. Do you want a 5x5 with more pieces or just larger?

Have not done one in a while. Sounds like a good idea. I'll work something up. I'll post it on the blog when the date will be.

Hi James, I'm not sure I remember which project you are talking about but it sounds like it might have been a compound cut where one name is scrolled in a block then another name is scrolled on the other surface. If you get a chance give me the time stamp in the video and I'll go look. Was it the 2010 SAW expo video or the 2008?

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately Windows does not have that feature. A while back I started adding the picture to the first page of the patterns at the request of several readers. This helps going forward but the old patterns are too numerous to go back and update. There is a program available that allows you to catalog pdfs using any picture but it is quite expensive. The name of the program if Filepick and there is a link to it on my blog if your interested.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: New Forum Area
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:26:22 am »
Hey guys, I would be happy to add any new forums you want. The only problem I see with that is getting so many that it becomes confusing to new members. That said there has not been a lot of growth in the forum membership and posts are down a bit. All this is coming from the crappy performance of the forum. I'm feeling really disappointed that I have not been able to make it better. It is getting worse. I still don't have absolute proof of the causes of the slow down. I am actually out looking at some hosted forum solutions. The big problem there is starting over.

My main concern now is that I am sending new readers here to the forum when I know it's not working right. That gives my blog a black eye. Not the end of the world but it does bother me. I have even considered taking the link off the blog to the forum and just keeping it open to current users. The problem there is no new blood can make the forum very stale quickly.

I just can't make up my mind what to do with the forum. I have ruled out advertising or any pay setup. Think how much grief I would be in for if people were paying and the service went to crap. No thanks. I'm still not convinced a dedicated server is the answer anyway so I'm not convinced the extra expense is worth it.

Right now I have just put the whole thing on the back burner hoping for a solution to pop up.

Sorry, lost my train of thought there. If you guys want new areas we can add them.

No it's not a problem. The few who try to do multiple entries are easy to see the way I check. Many entries are in the same 24 hour period but I can tell it just adds up to the number of days.
