Good to see you have your shop up and running Troy. Two very lucky people to receive your first two projects from your new shop.

I think this is on my list of things to make soon.

Also, thanks to Karl and CMHN for the links provided.

Hi Steven...Great job mate. I loved both the finished product and your youtube video of your grandson happily playing with the toy.

The other thing I consider a plus, the toy does not need batteries.

Nice work Jim. I like the idea of your club giving things away. I have tried to introduce this concept at the Men's Shed I belong too. When we have market stalls I think giving the kids something we have made is a great way of getting the parents in to see our items that we have for sale. A couple of times I have shown the kids some simple magic tricks and then showed them how to do the trick, afterwards, the parents walk around our stall and invariably buy something. I am winning bit by bit and they are starting to see the benefits of approaching the kids first.

Hi Danny. I had trouble accessing the web address you have supplied. I have clicked the link and copied and paste the link but they came back as inaccessible.

Merry Christmas to you also Judy.

One of my dreams does happen in 2016. I will officially be able to retire and I will not have to fill in fortnightly forms to get my government benefits. Plus, my income will double and I can get back to a normal life.

They also tell me that when you retire, you get more time to yourself. That I am looking forward too.

See you in 2016.

I heard about the bush fires Marg. My friends told me about them because I do not watch television, well, not much when there is gardening, trains, woodworking and of course, scroll-sawing that keeps me busy for most of my waking hours.

I trust you had a great Christmas with your family and friends.

Great work Jim. The detail in the picture is fantastic.

If you wore out your drill press, you might need to buy a bag of holes from your local hardware shop. I believe they come in all sizes. lol

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Project storage
« on: December 24, 2015, 05:43:41 pm »
I have been collecting the polystyrene (foam) boxes from my local Hotel (pub). They are the boxes that have the salmon delivered in. They store many of my projects, including my pens. I just add a frozen ice brick into the box and this protects the pens from the heat. Longer items would fit in there easily as well. I use bubble wrap to further protect the items.
The plus side is, they are quite strong and stack-able, and they are free.

link broken so removed.

The Coffee Shop / Great Christmas Party in the heat.
« on: December 24, 2015, 01:27:02 am »
Just a little over 2 weeks ago I held the kids Christmas party for all of the kids and their parents of the street I live in. This is the second year I have done this and we would have been running the Christmas trains around the garden like we did last year. But the temperatures in Adelaide, Australia, put a stop to that, it was 44?Celsius (111?Fahrenheit) at 5.30pm when the party started.
I realised from the forecasts that the temperature was going to be a killer, so I made other plans to keep them all entertained. I used some of the patterns from this site and made enough snowflakes for the kids to decorate and take home. It was a great success and the kids spent ages painting and adding glitter to them. Thanks to all who contributed the patterns to allow this to happen.

Every so often I would turn on the misters in the shade-house and the kids would walk through to cool down, in fact, many of the parents also cooled down the same way. When the party finished at 11.00pm, it was still 38?c. But I know all had a great time and asked if we were going to do the same next year.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a great and peaceful Christmas and I will see you in the New Year.

Cheers 8)

Dave

Hi Dreklie...

Welcome to the forum. Some nice work to start with and I like your rustic frames, they add more character to your finished work.

Well done Mate.
