Welcome. I started on a saw much like the Ryobi. It is a decent saw to get started on. I have a DW788 and have been using it now going on almost 8 years with good results. One of the things about scrolling is it can be therapeutic. It is fun and can be rewarding. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

The smaller font is Birds of Paradise there is a free version and a pay for version that has the compete font package. For most of what we do the free is sufficient.

Danny you need to look at your browsers viewing settings. If you are using Chrome in the upper right corner are 3 vertical dots click on them a menu will appear and about 1/2 way down you will see a setting called zoom... make sure that it is at 100%. it sounds like it is at 125 or higher. Microsoft Edge has a similar setting. Hope this helps.

Larry while I know how to do these signs I do them just for myself. Due to potential conflict with http://www.sheilalandrydesigns.com/ who first came up with this and does sell the patterns using the technique I could not in good conscience sell mine. http://www.sheilalandrydesigns.com/ does make custom patterns for folks you just need to contact them.

« on: May 07, 2017, 03:53:14 am »Thanks for the help. As far as cheap pine for the backing, any wood, especially thin wood is not going to be cheap. But, I might try the craft store and look for a thin foam board.
The other idea of bevel cuts and pushing the letters out so they stick out is one that I never thought of. I have made things with bevel cuts, but never thought of using it for free standing signs.

You can go the other way as well. Instead of pushing out the letters change the angle so that the letters are depressed into the wood by say 1/4 ot 3/8 of an inch. That works as well.
