General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Happy Thanksgiving to you ALL!
« on: November 28, 2013, 09:01:41 am »
Thank you Sheila.  Am having a new experience this year as I am preparing dinner.  Will be doing things I've never done before.  The turkey is thawed and getting ready for the oven.  If I can decide how to top the yams, they will be ready and then make the dressing.  These items are not in my repotoire but will see how it turns out.

I use reverse blades and lay the ornament flat on my 6" sander belt then sand with either the palm sander or random orbit sander.  Have been sanding very delicate fretworks without a problem.

Anyone who has a job and takes pride in their work is to be respected no matter the job.
I do take exception with Mike Rowe when he denigrates college degrees.  Respect should be mutual.

Just a lot of wind here.  It tossed my deck furniture around but no damage.

The same thing just happened to me.  I took the switch cover off, unplugged the switch, blew it all out and replugged it and it works fine.  Did put some clear plastic over the switch and tape it down to hopefully keep the dust out of the switch.

The Coffee Shop / The little ball
« on: November 16, 2013, 08:34:03 am »
An old cowboy walks into the barbershop for a shave and a haircut
and he tells the barber he can't get all his whiskers off because his
cheeks are wrinkled from age.

The barber gets a little wooden ball from a cup on the shelf and tells
the old cowboy to put it inside his cheek to spread out the skin.

When he's finished, the old cowboy tells the barber that was the
cleanest shave he's had in years.

But he wanted to know what would have happened if he had
swallowed that little ball.

The barber replied,"Just bring it back in a couple of days
like everyone else does".

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Dewalt 788 type 2 quality level in 2013?

I have a type I that I got at an estate auction.  Works great except I just found out about the dusty switch.  It quit and I opened it and cleaned it out and now works fine.

Some really good ideas but everything requires time which is in short supply right now.  I just counted and the box holds 39 motors and the friend told me he paid all of $4 for it.  I know you can order the hands and stick on numbers and will check with another friend who does clock and watch repair to see about the nuts.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Grrrrr!
« on: November 12, 2013, 09:43:01 am »
A good friend stopped by yesterday to let me know that her husband had been to an auction and brought me a box of a bunch of electric clock motors (no hands or nuts to hold the motor in place) and said now you can make a bunch of clocks.  I appreciate the thought but it will be more trouble getting the necessary parts and they will expect to see some clocks.  Also, these all have the short shaft so will have to be mounted in 1/4" wood.  I'm beginning to think it was a mistake to make them a Christmas gift last year as didn't intend to give them ideas.

Introduce Yourself. / Re: Hi everyone!

Welcome and thank you for your service.  I'm a proud navy veteran.  You definitely have the bug and will really appreciate the change when you get your saw upgraded.  You can turn out beautiful work on most any saw but it becomes much more enjoyable with a better saw.

With some red backing, that would make a great Christmas card.  Thx for the pattern.

I have used white lithium grease that comes in a spray can with a plastic tube nozzle.

Excluding saws, I would have to include my drill press, planer and 6" belt sander as they get used on almost every project.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Small, Novelty Bird House.... ?

Several years ago, I made some small bird houses and used aluminum flashing for a tin roof.  One lady applied small stones and made a cute stone cottage.
