Thanks Gadois    I just ordered my vac.  I switch my vac between the scroll saw & band saw.  This looks perfect.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Small Vac for scroll Saw?
« on: June 25, 2014, 11:42:14 pm »
I've had a small hand held vacuum [which was a wedding gift 50 years ago] clamped to the underside of my scroll saw and it has worked fine. HOWEVER, i can now hear the bearings and know the end is just around the corner.  Question?  I seem to remember a writeup/video on a new small powerful vacuum that is suitable for our use.  Can anyone point me in the right direction? - or was this another of my hallucinations?

Brag Forum / Three Blind Mice

This is one of Steve's Patterns with a few alterations. When a friend stack cut a few, I got the idea for the 3 blind mice. Now the question is for the younger members of the forum.  Most young people I've shown this to don't know the nursery rhyme.  Google it  :) and enjoy my variation.  PS I want to put them a piece of cheese but lack the imagination. Any ideas ??

Now us old gentlemen do have hair where it wasn't before and other places not so much. You have a beautiful white well trimmed beard, pddesertrat. But could it be that under that hat there's not much to trim except ever other year?    :)

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Hole repair
« on: June 19, 2014, 02:24:10 pm »
Thanks for all the repair pointers. I finally found Gorilla white glue - also clear.  And I'm glad you pointed out orbital sander powder Jim.  As for the tape over the hole ChuckD - my hole to be repaired is half on my plate rim and half on the plate center cut out. I want to repair the voids before I assemble the unit.  BUT I'm glad you brought up your technique. I'm putting that one in the back of mind. Sure hope is doesn't get lost. Thanks again everybody.  Brian

I got 15/15 but must admit some of the terms were "up graded" from my science ed.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Hole repair
« on: June 14, 2014, 11:18:54 pm »
Started one of Sheila Landry 's Self framing projects. Of course it requires a blank entry hole [angled] to cut out the center part. I found that I don't like the size of my entry hole. It is small but I would like to fill it.  I've saved some of the maple saw dust for mixing with glue. Now here's the question.  What glues have been tried that don't show up?  I will not be staining this, only applying a clear sealer.  Thanks for any input in advance     Brian

Kepy is right on.  Rather than tape, i sometimes lay the "frame" piece on tope of the backer and lightly pencil the outline. Then paint a little past the line that way I leave as much unpainted area as possible.  I then glue the frame and backer followed by a last spray of clear finish to help seal the painted backing.  P.S. You can tape the backer as Kepy stated; paint the backer & also seal coat the painted/taped backer - then glue the backer/frame together.  I use this approach when I want the backer to have a mat finish and the frame to have another sheen.

I've done a couple pieces where I have wanted to give a little back ground on the item & the designers name.  I've paraphrased their magizine article along with their name and printed a separate slip to accompany the item. Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Foot Pedal

I'm 71 also with a dead-man switch setup. My only complaint [a small one] is my 71 year old leg gets tired holding that "on" position and every once in while as I'm threading a new hole my foot relaxes from the up position and things start up unexpectedly. At those times I'm glad I picked a safe machine to run. :)

Frank - I had a friend tell me "if it sells right away - you priced it to low" & "if you don't sell it - the price was set to high" You'll never know.

Brag Forum / Segmented Flag with Eagle
« on: May 15, 2014, 02:43:46 pm »
I like simple and Frank Droege's Segmented Flag fit my taste. I made a few changes; no blue border, raised the stars 1/8", and found an Eagle to "float" over the flag. Thanks for looking.  Brian
