It looks to me like you have a real good handle on pattern making, the Indian chief will me a beautiful piece. The following link has a great video tutorial about "Floaters" and other terms used and how to fix and avoid them. Hope you find it useful.

Finally got around to cutting this one and thought I'd show it off. I don't know who Daniel Hart is, but his name is on the pattern, and would like to thank him for such a wonderful pattern. And also thanks to the person who posted it on this board, sorry, I don't remember who it was.

The pattern is cut out of Maple plywood from Ochooch and the backer is 3/4" Walnut flooring that I re-purposed. I have to say this pattern was a lot more challenging to cut then I thought it wood be, and took me about three hours to cut, which is two hours longer then I expected, but I think it was worth it. My intention was to give it as a gift, but I think I'm gonna have to keep this one, and make some more.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: What kind of wood is this?
« on: December 02, 2011, 11:26:12 pm »
I've been researching this wood and think that Gene and Termite are on the right track. The closest coloring and grain match appears to be possibly Red Mahogany. My earlier post stating this wood is light was simply wrong, I musta been feeling very strong earlier cus this wood is actually very heavy. I have another piece of known Mahogany that I compared it to, the grains are similar, but the unknown wood is quite yellower then the other piece.

Thanks for your help, at this point I'm calling it Mahogany, unless someone else can Identify what it really is.

This was fun, thanks to Steve for the great pattern. The fuselage and wheels are Walnut the wings and tail are Maple, oiled in Blo mix and gave it a couple coats of Shelac.

The "Peace on Earth" sign is a pattern from Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts holiday issue. The Peace is 3/4" Mahogany the "On Earth" is Maple. Same finish as above.

I received 2 of these pieces of wood (8" wide 8' long x 3/4" thick) The guy who gave it to me didn't know what it is, I'm not sure either. So I thought I'd ask the pro's! I did sand a little bit and oil it for the picture.
Thanks,
Bob
