Ask Steve a question. / Re: Woodworker TV Show
« on: October 08, 2010, 10:02:29 pm »
The name of the show is "Rough Cut Woodworking with Tommy Mac". It will air on PBS stations around the country. It is scheduled to start in October so check your TV guide now. Tommy seems like a great guy and he is very talented.

In my earlier forum announcement about uploading patterns to the Community Forum I set the message to go out as an announcement to all members. As a result it appears that the announcement was directed to the recipient. It was meant to be a forum wide announcement and not directed to an individual. Please forgive my poor handling of the announcement. I just wanted to get the word out so everyone knows how important it is. I will not do another email announcement in the future because they are confusing. I did not realize it would be emailed out. Sorry for my ignorance of the system.

Bulletins and News / Pattern Uploads. Must Read.
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:31:48 pm »
Absolutely under no circumstances can you upload a pattern that you do not own the rights to.  It does not matter if it is a free pattern from another site. Do not upload it. If you want to tell the members of the forum where they can find the pattern that's fine. If you created the pattern make sure you are not violating any trademark or copyrights. For example, uploading a pattern of the Harley Davidson emblem is a no-no. Disney characters, school mascots etc... are all on the forbidden list.

This is a very serious matter for me. I am the one that has to answer the Cease and Desist letter from the lawyer. They go something like this.

Dear Mr Good, it has come to my clients attention that your web site is in violation of his copyrighted material. We demand that you discontinue any further use of this material and submit back to us the number of times it was viewed so we can calculate our financial damages. To save all parties the time and cost associated with legal action we expect an immediate reply.

I have seen these letters twice. Both times they were because of an unintentional mistake and fortunately the people on the other end were easy to work with and all went well. They could have worked out much worse.

I know none of you do these things intentionally but I have to let everyone know what the rules are.

Remember "The beatings will continue until morale improves."

Hey GB, if it happens again you may want to take a look at the motor brush. If it's worn badly the motor will draw more current and possibly blow the fuse. It's item 117 in the Dewalt DW788 parts list.

Hi Barry. Most print drivers will let you adjust the percentage to print at. After you select print look through the print driver and you will see what I am talking about. That's the fastest way to reduce them in size.

I spent 3 days in a recliner after a surgery. Can't imagine having to be there for four weeks. Good to hear you are feeling better. Take care.

Hey guys, My vote went for #7. I guess I should have been impartial but #7 was made by the 10 year old in the picture. He had a little help with the sanding from his father but he did all the cutting and assembly. His dad had the email of the contest open and he saw it and wanted to enter. His dad said he could but would have to do most of it himself. I thought he did a great job.

The voting is really close. After over 600 votes 1st and 2nd are separated by 1 vote. Hard to get closer than that.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Price for name ornaments
« on: September 16, 2010, 02:39:10 am »
Hi Geno, i highly encourage anyone interested learn how to make the name ornaments. i posted a couple blog posts a couple years ago that show how to do them in corel draw and even in microsoft word. they are very popular and make nice gifts. they can be good sellers also. I can make the pattern in under 2 minutes which is a good thing because I have made close to 1700 of them in the last couple weeks. As far as price goes I would personally come up with a cost per letter. there is a big difference in cutting Al and Alfredo. I think I would have a minimun of $5 then charge $1 for every letter more than 5.

Thanks guys. My reader is looking for one that has a 20in throat. The longest I can find is 13 inches.
I think FDMike is correct and he will have to look overseas. Thanks for the help.

Hi Sam, I'm pretty sure I used Stencil Gothic for that pattern. It is available here. http://www.dafont.com/search.php?psize=m&q=stencil+gothic

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Recommendation: Coin Cutters in Lisbon, Portugal
« on: September 12, 2010, 07:03:17 am »
Hi Berlin, good to hear the video helped. I would recommend the Hegner over the DeWalt for production cutting. The Hegner is a high quality and very smooth running saw. I like the DeWalt but the Hegner is in another class. Another problem is that I don't think the DeWalt is available in Portugal. I am pretty sure that the Hegner is available all over Europe. You are going to pay a little more for the Hegner but in this case the price will be worth the investment.
