In Judy's piece she said she used western red cedar. I used popular, WRC, pine, mahogany, and some walnut that came from a dresser that was part of a bedroom set my parents brought back is the 60's, around here the type of furniture was known as Holywood furniture. The furniture became popular because similar syyles were featured in shows like "I love Lucy, and the Honeymooners".  My parents are gone now but a piece of them lives on in this piece. It is sorta special to me. Thanks for the comments. BY the way did anyone see the cat that is sitting in the chair??? My brother -in -law says that he saw one there...

Hi folks it has been a while since I have been in and around :-[. I have to make it a point to connect more often, there is a lot of new stuff posted since my last visit. Here are a few pictures of my latest intarsia piece. I am sorta proud that I persevered and finished the project, God knows I felt like burning it a few times. The 3-D effect was the greatest challenge. The pattern is by JG Roberts and has taken me about 5 months to do. Let me know what you think, all feedback is good.  I have three years to retirement and this one is going up in my office for everyone to see ;D

The Coffee Shop / waterproofing cedar????
« on: July 07, 2011, 09:28:27 pm »
Hi folks, I just completed an outdoor project where I used cedar instead of the usual pressure treated material :D. My understanding about cedar is that it resists water and will not rot like pine or spruce, so do I need to use a water seal on the project. I am sure one of you learned individuals would know the answer to that question.. ;D

Last year I was working on one very similar to this to give to my brother for his cabin. I had about it 2/3's cut when the saw snagged and destroyed the whole center area. I was disgusted. Didn't remember it until now.   Glad you showed, I may give it another go. Thanks ;)

With the wet weather we are getting you may have to double up on the Thompsons water seal. Good job, I would do one for my wife but she only uses the drier. >:(
