Yes great cutting/pattern.  I also like the idea of red behind the heart. I've made it easy on myself when doing two colors is to tape a piece of red paper to the back of the cutting. That way I don't have to worry about colors lining up.  PS I would use gloss red to really pop it out.  Whatever your choice they look super.  Brian

All the methods work.  But I find a project may determine which method I will use. If I'm using good hardwood & want a nice light stain - I might not want to apply the patten straight on the wood because mineral spirits might stain in areas when removing the pattern.  I also watch how good a tape is if I'm going to be on the project for, say, a week or month.  Some tapes get really married to the wood fibers and pull up some loose grain. Experience for your projects will bring you round to your preferred method. I don't mind the smell or stickiness of spray adhesive it was part of my old job & for me it's quick.  Brian

Oops - Can't take credit for the design Frank.  I found the pattern in June 2003 issue of Creative Woodworks & Crafts page 16 by David Wedoski

Congrates on the new saw  :) About that wife thing, 50 years and I still cringe and wonder about acceptance. But then I figure I don't swear, drink, gamble, or chase women - A guy has to have some fun in life; even if you have to stay in the shop.  ;) ;) ;)   And oh yes, Marg is right - keep both saws- if not to switch back and forth then to have if one is being repaired.  Brian

This sounds interesting. Is there a shelf life? Does the mineral spirits evaporate & change the 25%/25%/ 50% mix?

Don't forget - if you clamp your blade all the back in the bottom clamp and all the way forward in the top clamp, you are also setting up an exaggeration of the swing motion. I was terrible at first with my saw but with practice I can now do pretty good.  I think it's more my operator error than the machines'.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Epoxy ???
« on: July 10, 2014, 11:42:32 pm »
I'm trying to glue a 3-D dragonfly to a metal beret for my granddaughter.  I've read in a number of places to use epoxy E-6000.  I've look at Ace hardware but they have too many "special" epoxies. Can anyone direct me to E-6000 or an equivalent?  Thank Brian

That pheasant looks great Charles. Pheasant hunting here in South Dakota is big in the fall. How many hours to cut it? If I started last week I might finish by Oct.  :) Brian

Now that is a truly beautiful piece.  Is the design yours?  Is it an old pattern you have access to?  I only ask because detail pieces like yours are not to readily available anymore .

With the design help from Sheila Landry & Keith  Fenton, I have a finished wedding plaque ready for THE BIG day. This was a little more demanding to follow the pattern lines.  But all ended well. Excuse my one arm being longer than the other for patting myself on the back. It was one of projects that started out a challenge but soon advanced [somewhat].  Thanks for looking  Brian

I particularly like "the tongue being the only muscle attached at one end."  Guess that's why it gets out of control sometimes.
